Can I have some PCOS help please?

Sorry I know this is the wrong place to post this, but I got no response elsewhere. Smile

I’ve got PCOS and don’t have a period naturally (last one was Nov ‘15). I’m fat and trying (and failing) to lose weight, the fertility clinic think I’ll fall once I lose the weight. I took provera and had a forced bleed in February.

For the last week, I’ve had really tender/sore nipples and feel super sick multiple times a day. I’ve tested three times over the last week and all have been negative.

Does anyone have any ideas? It’s doing my head in now, I feel awful and super emotional but obviously the negative tests aren’t helping my emotions. Could it be PCOS symptoms?

Thanks Smile

Hello, I have PCOS. I’m not sure what’s going on with your current symptoms...I suppose you need to just wait and retest in a few days. However my advice is to chart your cycles...take your temp in the mornings, learn how to recognise different types of cervical fluid. You will get to know your body and your cycles well and will know if/when you’ve ovulated. It was the only thing that gave me some feeling of control over the whole sorry mess of TTC. Weight loss is important but difficult with PCOS. What have you tried? I eventually took Clomid...conceived, miscarried, this strangely seemed to kickstart my cycles and I conceived naturally.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve bought a thermometer so I’ll start charting my temperature in the morning.

I feel like I’ve tried everything with regards to weight loss - WW, slimming world, slimfast, calorie counting. Nothing seems to work, I lose a few pounds then put it all back on with a couple more. Frustrating. I can’t get clomid until my weight is down Sad

Maybe do some research into the keto diet and conception - some really successful stories there. PCOS affects the way body manages insulin (I think) and the keto diet is essentially a sugar free and low carb diet. I've read a lot of success stories for it.

I've done the keto diet before and you're honestly not hungry, your diet is based on primarily fat and moderate protein which keeps you full.

Do your own research though and make your own decisions before starting it 😊 it's not for everyone.

Hi OP, fellow pcos sufferer here!

If the tests are coming up as negative, I'd try again in a week but it may just be a hormonal imbalance.

Has your GP suggested Metformin at all?

Wiglio · 28/04/2020 16:03

Do have a look at verity-PCOS.org.uk
I use it with patients it’s been helpful

HironsBirons · 28/04/2020 17:16

I’ll look into keto @CooperLooper, thanks. I’ve heard good things about Kim Campbell’s pcos diet too, so I need to look into that too.

@thesnackbitch no my doctor hasn’t mentioned metformin at all. I’ve got an appointment with the fertility clinic at the end of the month, I think I’ll ask my consultant for it then. I’m thinking that it is just a hormonal imbalance, sadly Sad

@Wiglio thanks for that link - I’ll take a look. My doctors haven’t been very helpful with resources. I was told to read about what it was on the nhs website, but nothing else.

@HironsBirons I would definitely recommend chatting to your doctor about Metformin. I had awful side effects on the normal Metformin but the slow release version has been great. It helps with insulin resistance so weight loss is easier. I do low carb, keto makes my blood sugar levels drop too much and I feel ill. Although I'm not trying to conceive, Metformin has regulated by cycle and helped my skin too. It's not a miracle but it really helps.

Another product I've been using in conjunction with Metformin is myo-inositol - google it if you can. Vitamin B, chromium and folic acid supplements help too.

Hope you manage to get on top of it, it is awful but manageableThanks

I agree with asking your doctor about Metformin.

thesnackbitch · 28/04/2020 21:20

Just to add, after taking all of the medication and supplements I just mentioned - I went for a check up scan about two months ago and my ovaries were cyst free! Which is amazing considering they both measured 15cm each this time last year when I was originally diagnosed.

longtimelurkerfirsttimeposter · 28/04/2020 21:21

Google inofolic for pcos, I have conceived twice within 3 months the first time and one month the second after taking that, no other treatments.

HironsBirons · 30/04/2020 12:47

Thank you - I’ll make note of metformin and ask my doctor next time. I already take myo-inositol, and I think that really helps, especially with cravings. I’ll look up the other supplements recommended too, and see what will work for me.

Inofolic is inositol isn’t it? I’ll check it out anyway!

Thank you all Smile

Has anyone checked your blood sugar?. Pcos can cause insulin resistance which wouldn’t help weight loss.

It’s very unusual not to weight at all when dieting isn’t it?.

Swingingsally · 30/04/2020 13:42

I took metformin before conceiving the second time. Obviously loose weight, metformin should really help you with this...

i find only eating a light lunch and dinner has helped me become regular ie no breakfast
