when someone asks for advice on thrush they are told to wash with aqueous cream.
is it the actual cream or does it come in a soap formula because i can't find it as a wash or shower cream.
i find soap irratating( i know , i shouldn't use soap but i feel dirty just using water)

Ordinary acqueos cream can be used as a wash, smooth it on and rinse it off. very kind to skin

wonderrotunda · 27/04/2020 15:05

It’s the cream. I used it liberally on DS when he was a baby with eczema and the drains got blocked! Go steady!

thank you

You can try it but be aware that aqueous cream contains sodium lauryl sulfate, so it may still cause some irritation.

Stop using soap directly - it'll change ph balance and cause you continuous problems - hot water is best, so have baths when you need to - showers are rubbish in all honesty for keeping us clean - also, go for the tablet form of thrush medication if the cream is doing nothing whatsoever - I usually get thrush after penicillin.

It comes in lovely round tubs in Boots (and elsewhere, I imagine Wink). I use it instead of soap with a bath or shower.

Cityonlockdown · 27/04/2020 15:34

Poundland do nice big tubs of it, rub it on like soap, and use on dry skin to moisturise.
I think it is in the 'flammable risk' though, so no smoking in bed with it on your nightie!

MitziK · 27/04/2020 16:02

If she's been using it for thrush, I would be thinking she's smoking wrong if it caused an issue...

Seriously, yes, because they contain liquid paraffin, yes, they can be a risk when clothing is soaked in the stuff, as the fabric could act as a wick.

However, when they are used for washing, significantly less is left on the skin.

To avoid blocking the drains, it's a good idea to wash the affected part by hand whilst standing. Take some of the cream (not much), dampen your hand and then apply it so it melts, wiping the majority away gently with a warm clean flannel.

Obviously being aware and avoiding cross contamination, it is also brilliant for cleansing your face and neck. Massage in until it melts, hot damp flannel. Will take off the toughest, darkest, waterproof, wax based, almost indelible makeup without the any trouble and leave you skin feeling super soft and clean.

If it doesn't work for you, another good thing to try is Eucerin shower gel. That is very gentle.

We have far too much knowledge of skin creams, lotions and potions here. I didn't even know I had sodding Psoriasis until I met DP. Two years later, I flare up and I get the same bloody diagnosis.
