What to get for people who are self-isolating?

I'm sure lots of people are in this position so it might be useful to many of us.

My parents are in their 80s and are staying in at the moment so they stay safe from Covid-19. Of course I am happy to get them things to do and eat but it's hard to think of ideas. So far I have sent:

Jigsaw puzzle
Crime fiction books for dad
Wool for mum - she knits
Special food (e.g. scones/cream/jam pack)
Word search
Crossword puzzle book
Flowers to brighten their living room
DVDs they particuarly like

Luckily before lockdown we set up a nestbox with a camera on their TV and they have a blue tit sitting on 8 eggs to watch as well which they love.

Any more ideas to help brighten up their days?

op you sound so lovely 💐
Not sure to be honest, you have done so much already.

A Portal?

Been looking into one for my mum but she’s in her 80s and struggles with tech. Your parents are a good bit younger though, so they’d enjoy it, probably.

Do they have a garden or outside space? Plants are quite good to tend.

Sorryoo · 27/04/2020 08:23

If they have a garden a lovely comfy chair/recliner if they don't have one.

Magazine or newspaper subscription/delivery? Or if they use a kindle, gift voucher.

If they have GC (or even just their DC) you could send a lot of photos (FreePrints are really good) and a photo album for them to arrange them in?

I'm shielded and so fucking bored. You sound lovely.

If they don't have one, a tilty table thing that goes over your bed/sofa/armchair for them to jigsaw in comfort? (Yes I've used jigsaw as a verb, sorry Grin)

Lovely shower gel/bath stuff if they bathe so they can look forward to using it.

Gin subscription?

RomaineCalm · 27/04/2020 08:31

Could you set up a TouchNote account and send them regular postcards with a note?

Could be pictures of the family, a photo taken during a walk or even a joke/quick quiz/cartoon.

We've done these for DH's Gran - it brightens her day to get something through the post.

Thanks everyone! Some good ideas here - I like especially like the Touch Note one @RomaineCalm and the magazine subscription from @Sorryoo. I'll casually ask about what they do their jigsaws on to see if a the tilty thing is a good idea.

Also thought of seeds, when @Lordfrontpaw suggested garden stuff. I am going to get mustard and cress and send them to them as they'll growly quickly and will be great for their tea!

In case anyone is looking for ideas, mum has said she'd like some notelets for writing to people (she doesn't email) so I'll make her some up on photobox of her garden flowers last year and pre-stamp them.

Sadly the portal won't work, as they are late 80s they haven't wanted the internet (only just got a smart phone). But great idea for others I am sure.

If they like notelets (I approve of this, we all need more hand written notelets in our lives Grin) what about a lovely fountain pen?

All these ideas sound lovely. I kind of wish you were my DC now Wink although one of mine has just brought me a big bunch of flowers Smile

Pinkarsedfly · 28/04/2020 20:29

Sorry, OP, I misread your first post, I thought they were in their 60s.

LateMumma · 28/04/2020 22:36

A window feeder for the birds, we love ours. Audio books? You sound lovely OP
