Fed up with DH

I’m a care worker and I work 5 days a week.

DH is a civil servant so he’s working from home and DS (19) is out of college at the minute.

Anyway, every single day I come home, the house is a mess. The floors are never vacuumed, full of dog hair and dirt. The breakfast and lunch dishes are still sitting all over the kitchen counters and there is still crumbs and empty food packaging lying about lying about.

The bathroom is a mess, water all over the floor and damp towels piled up on the floor.

It’s disgusting. When I’m off work, the house is so clean because I keep it tidy (I’m a neat freak) but when I’m working, it’s like it’s been taken over by slobs.

All I ask is that they keep the house reasonably tidy whilst I’m not there, it’s not too much to ask is it? I get that DH still has a job to do but I’m sure he could still fit in some cleaning!

It’s so disheartening having to come home in the evening after 9 hours at work and start cleaning the whole house. Ds even said to me once “it’s not my fu#king house, clean it yourself”

Just needed to get it off my chest really

That’s not on OP.

The first obvious thing is DS attitude. I get that he can’t leave but he’s an adult and needs to behave like one.
I think you need to sit them down and tell them you need their respect and support & DH needs to reinforce good manners from DS
If nothing changes I would be tempted to leave it, hard though that may be, until they run out of dishes, towels etc. They might get the message.

Yeah, I'd also stop cleaning after them - but then I'm fully capable of leaving it until the house is a pigsty.

They might not care at first (and only wash whatever dishes they need) but they'll care when they run out of clean clothes.

And tell your DS that since it's not his house he's welcome to leave as soon as lockdown is lifted.

But surely this isn't a new issue ? How did you manage prior to lockdown ?
