DPD delivery fail. Is it even worth contacting them?

Expecting a delivery today, with the delivery slot between 11.51 and 12.51. I’ve just received a message to say that my driver “missed” me and will be back tomorrow. I’ve been sitting by the front window reading for the past 40 minutes and have seen no sign of a delivery van.

I wouldn’t have minded a message saying the driver was too busy and couldn’t fit me in or whatever, but false pretence that they attempted delivery and it was my fault for not being in is so annoying!

I know that delivery delivers are doing an essential and risky job at the moment and really appreciate that we can still get things we need delivered when we’re unable to go to the shops and buy them ourselves. And I know it’s a trivial thing to be annoyed at in the larger scene of things. But AIBU to be irritated by the dishonesty? Should I even bother contacting DPD to point out that I was actually at home?

delivery drivers lie even in normal times due to underpayment and overscheduling. UPS did this to me the other day with 'no receiver' - as if there would be no-one at home in a lockdown! At least 'missed' is vaguely honest.

I think the only way to contact DPD is by twitter (even in normal times - they won't let you phone them and ignore emails) so probably worth it, second time should work.

Yeah, been lied to by every delivery company under the sun at least once, but this one feels all the more blatant because, as you say mencken, where else would I be right now?

The crappiness of delivery companies and the fibs they tell seems to be one of those “modern life is rubbish” things that people just seem to accept. It was the same when I lived abroad. But now I have more time on my hands to stew about it! I don’t have a twitter account but may consider joining if DPD ignore my rather passive aggressive email.

I had the same message last week - including a picture of the parcel sat outside my house. But the house definitely wasn't mine.

DPD checked their GPS data and somehow the driver had got completely the wrong address. Is the live chat open at the weekend? I found them really helpful, between them and the local depot they got the driver to come back and bring me the parcel.

The live chat thing sent me a “picture” of my calling card location which was just an empty black rectangle, because there was no calling card! When I replied to point this out, the response I got was that they couldn’t help me further and to contact them by email. I feel really sorry for their staff being made to lie, especially when it’s so obvious.

Dpd usually have a live map you can check where the van is, what delivery slot you are and how many stops they have before you? Did you look at that this morning?

Mrsfrumble · 26/04/2020 15:17

No, I didn’t see that. They sent a link from r what to do if I wasn’t going to be in, but I didn’t open it. I was given false confidence by the knowledge that I and all my neighbours would be in, and that I’d paid for next day delivery.

Will definitely look for it tomorrow!
