We have a long drive way down the length of our house, a lack of storage, yet not really the budget to build an extension.

And I don’t fancy putting an extension in the morgage so I was thinking of building a inexpensive garage
Maybe a wooden one ?
Or maybe one of them garden office building or something

We had a concrete sectional garage put up for this reason at our old house. Wasn't mega bucks and looked nicer than it sounds...

How much roughly was it if you don’t mind me asking

I’ve seen someone these where they put bricks on it at the front, so it looks like a brick garage, from the front

I can not remember but maybe 3k..that included removing a derilict asbestos filled out building that was there before

Lardlizard · 25/04/2020 23:54

Did it lean against your house ? I’m thinking maybe a freestanding wooden one might be better

No it was free standing and sort of pebble dash in finished. House was 1930s semi with render on top half so it looked like it matched I'll see if I can find a picture.

I have no idea of the cost but apparently you can buy shipping containers ( a couple if houses near me have them ) they are ugly but you could put some trellis up and grow climbing plants

LIZS · 02/05/2020 12:52

You need pp for storage buildings or shipping containers but not a large shed, unless there restrictions such as for newbuilds, in a conservation area or if it covers a large proportion of the garden. There may also be covenants in place.

You will have to put a heater in your shed or garage during the wet months or your stuff will go mouldy with the dampness. Electric heaters are dear so expect your leccy bill to go up.

Lardlizard · 02/05/2020 14:10

Surely stuff that’s contained in storage boxes, the plastic ones will be fine
All I can’t honk of is a extra large shed or garage but I’ll Hve a look at shipping containers
And maybe Even caravanS on eBay !

Caravans do get damp in winter though. Whatever you choose needs some form of ventilation.
