What benefits have you noticed from running, especially beauty benefits?

Thanks :)

In terms of beauty, I look healthier, so my skin glows more, I am more toned around the face, neck, shoulders etc. So I look more attractive in that sense. BUT remember to apply sunscreen, as I didn't and the weightloss combined with sunshine (and other weather elements) left me a little more wrinkly than before.

Initially, the first few years, the running combined with the resulting weightloss meant I was more energetic. I HAD to get up, leave my desk at work, run up and down the stairs, although that feeling faded after a while.

I learned to love and be satisfied by that post run ache. My mental health improved ten-fold. If I was stressed, I ran and it felt good. I developed a sense of pride in my speed and distance.

However, I no longer run. I had 6 good years, but I developed injuries that simply are not healing and I suspect will never heal completely . I have taken up other exercise instead, but haven't had the same buzz, or fitness results as running gave me.

I believe some research suggests running is bad for the face ageing. I’m not sure really that running and beauty benefits will go hand in hand- health benefits, yes... but beauty? Unlikely.

I don’t think running will give you any particular “beauty” benefits compared to other exercise, in fact you would need to protect your skin from the elements as you would be out in all weathers. Any exercise will make you look healthier and more vibrant.

I didn't get fat. That may be related.

For me, the benefits of running are improved mental health, a bit of time to myself and improved fitness and stamina. My face looks a bit saggier, although that might just be the ravages of time.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 25/04/2020 09:00

Arse or face, you can only choose one. Running, fitness etc have given me a fabulous Arse but face is definitely more lined, saggy due to being so fit, and running I think especially makes it more saggy.

BossAssBitch · 25/04/2020 13:52

Weights and HIIT will give you all the beauty benefits of running minus the saggy skin and weathered complexion. Your body will look nicer than a runner’s body too. They always look gaunt / too sinewy

lastqueenofscotland · 25/04/2020 13:59

Running probably hasn’t been great for my face, but it has genuinely given me the greatest happiness I have ever known. So if someone thinks I’m too thin or too sinewy I don’t give a shiny shit, I’d much rather be as happy as I am.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/04/2020 16:10

It gives me a beautiful glow, like a radioactive tomato Grin

A cap, suncream and moisturiser protect my face. My arse is more than capable of looking after herself, she's a big girl now. Very perky Grin

TheMarbleFaun · 25/04/2020 17:17

The mental health benefits outweigh any others for me
I say that as someone who took up running fairly late in life and could definitely not be described as looking "gaunt and sinewy"!

Bounceyflouncey · 25/04/2020 17:19

I find it leaves my skin pretty bad to be honest, I guess the sweat isn't great for it and clogs the pores. But all of the other benefits outweigh that, I did used to buy an expensive, fancy cream which helped, but now I don't bother.

Thanks so far everyone :)
