Severe period pain - what can I do?

Can’t go out as shielding or I’d be buying everything I can from chemist . I’ve had a bath, I’ve taken two paracetomal and two ibuprofen, but I’m in absolute agony . Bent double for the last two hours and been biting down on a bloody hairbrush as can’t get relief . Not had period pain like it in years . What can I do ? GP surgery said can’t help as it isn’t an emergency - ‘just’ menstrual pain but my god I’m in agony .

Used to be admitted to hospital a few years ago with period pain before for morphine, have endometriosis, adhesions and bladder involvement so aware it can get very, very bad but this is absolutely excruitiating . It’s the worst pain I’ve ever felt by a long shot .

I think you need to get back on to the doctor and tell them the level of pain you are in is an emergency. Sorry you're going through this.

Agree with above poster. You need something like mefanamic acid. You can buy naproxen over the counter if you get desperate; it doesn't work for me but does for lots of other people. Perhaps call a pharmacy and see if they can prescribe/suggest something stronger for you. Black paramol (paracetamol and dihydrocodeine) might help more as well if you can get hold of any. Feel better soon, period pain is horrific and there is no way you should be left to suffer this.

Is your period very heavy too or just painful?
I used to get agonising period pain a few years ago where I’d be writhing in agony in bed and unable to stand up. Awful!
Going back on the pill helped calm them down a bit and I also got stronger painkillers from the GP to use in emergencies.
If your period is very heavy then maybe start taking iron to avoid anemia too

Lying face down on the bed with a hot water bottle on your womb area might take the edge off the pain but you’ll probably need to speak to a GP to get a prescription for something to properly help you

How are you doing? Hope you've found something to help.

You need to speak to your Gp again, it could be something else as that sounds exceptional for period pain.

Mefenamic Acid is brilliant for period pain in my opinion. I used to get it severe enough that it used to make me sick. It was agony. Alternatively, switch to using the pill, that will also stop it.
