Kitchenaid dreams, Poundland budget

baubled · 24/04/2020 11:15

Not quite but I'm doing the standard amount of baking during lockdown and after the cake I made yesterday, I've decided that I'm a pro (jokes) and deserve a Kichenaid! Unfortunately my pro dreams don't match my budget so I need to find something a bit cheaper but not absolutely shit - any suggestions?

Second hand from ebay. Around £100ish. If they're as good as most people think they are then a second hand one work perfectly fine for you for many years.

Juanmorebeer · 24/04/2020 11:59

I have the Swan one. It's actually fearne cotton's range (was a present so didn't choose) but it is brilliant!

They aren't quite as pretty at Kitchenaids but second-hand Kenwood Chefs are absolute workhorses and tend to go very cheaply on eBay etc.

After a downsize a few years ago involving the disposal of lots of kitchen equipment I spent a long time browsing John Lewis - but couldn't make up my mind about anything. The need for cake prompted the hasty purchase of a Sainsbury's handmixer. Was just supposed to be 'for the time being'. I've had it ten years now. Works perfectly, takes up no room, includes dough hooks ... Added a decent stick blender shortly afterwards, which I use almost every day.

I still infrequently haunt John Lewis' kitchen department - but I honestly don't need anything better now.

Kenwood Patissier. Much cheaper and a thing of beauty.

EvilPea · 24/04/2020 12:13

Lidl and Aldi sometimes do them. And I think Lakeland do a hand mixer with a stand (so maybe best of both).

baubled · 24/04/2020 12:20

Thank you for suggestions so far! I must admit, I've had a hand mixer for years but it packed up when making yesterday's masterpiece resulting in a nasty blister from a wooden spoon!

Just off to eBay/google all of these.

I agree that a secondhand Kitchenaid would be a good buy. My mother in law's has to be 25 years old and still going strong, she uses it a few times a week.

Thighmageddon · 24/04/2020 12:25

I've got a kitchen aid and a Kenwood.

The kenwoods Are far superior when it comes to getting the work done without struggling. And they last for years.

Kirschcherry · 24/04/2020 12:27

I have a kitchenaid now and it is fab, but I had a kenwood before and it absolutely did the job. You could also get loads of attachments for it which were not too pricey.

Whycantibetangy · 24/04/2020 12:34

We got a brilliant version from Lidl special buys keep your eye out because they go fast

WhyDoesItAlways · 24/04/2020 12:38

I have a Kenwood one. I am not a pro baker and have never used at kitchen aid so can't compare but it does mix cake batter and dough very well. And it easy to clean. I have a blender attachment too and there are others you can get like a juicer and meat mincer thing. I would recommend.

I've had a Kenwood for about 15 years and it's still going strong!

SweetPetrichor · 24/04/2020 14:04

Kenwoods are workhorses. They're great. That's what I've used in professional kitchens and I couldn't fault them...ours even survived shaking its way into falling off the counter with barely a scratch!
No longer work in professional kitchens and at home I have a Kitchenaid because I don't bake as much at home and it's beautiful, but it's definitely inferior in performance to the kitchenaid. I just bought it cause it's pretty decent and looks great.

baubled · 24/04/2020 16:23

Thank you all! Will keep my eyes open for that Lidl special and also have a look around at Kenwoods!

Older heavier kenwoods are fab!

billy1966 · 24/04/2020 16:30

OP, make sure to look at the wattage.
1000 upwards gives you a powerful motor.

baubled · 24/04/2020 17:40

@billy1966 That's great, thank you!
