My baby is almost 7 months old and can't roll over

I have a baby girl who will be 7 months old on the 1st May. She can roll over onto her belly but she cannot roll back. She doesn't mind being on her but only for a short time (if she is tired she will moan immediately) she tries so hard to roll back but we always have to help her.

She also can't sit up yet, I am not sure if I should be concerned or is there anything I can do?

If your concerned you can always phone your health visitor for advice but I wouldn’t be to concerned yet.
Have you got a doughnut to sit her in to encourage her to sit up? It can take babies a while to be able to sit up independently without wobbling over. At 7 months my little boy could only manage a couple of seconds sitting up before he wobbled over, he was 8 months before he could sit up independently without going over and he’s nearly two now and he’s absolutely fine. My older two girls were similar.

My DS was the same, seemingly very slow to sit up or roll over. He hit eight months and decided to do ever at once! He went from being very non mobile to siting, rolling over and crawling in the space of about three weeks. They all develop at their own pace but do check with the health visitor if you’re worried.

Knowing how babies like to mess with your head, she's about 3 weeks from pulling herself up and dismantling the gas fire. We found out DD could crawl when she got up the stairs.ShockShockShock

I have three DC and none rolled! All DC are different and they don't all achieve textbook milestones. Another example is that DC3 only started walking at 17-18 months. I was despairing but they went on to do the Njymeggen march when they were 16 which is 100 miles marching over 4days. Same DC didn't start riding a bike until they were 8 but went on to do lots of riding including a paper round.

I'm only giving you these examples to encourage you not to worry.

My niece was walking before she rolled. Her parents were delighted because nappy changing when they start to flip is a nightmare. She’s well within normal so don’t worry.

My dd rolled for the first time at 10 months and even now she doesn’t do it very often 2 months later. They all develop at different rates

My DD wasn't rolling at 7 months. She wasn't really on the move till 8 and a half months when she decided to start crawling and pulling her self up on the furniture then walked at 11 months! I was always concerned that she seemed so far behind the other babies in my anti natal group but then she overtook them all and was the first to walk.

Thank you everyone! Had a chat with my mum about it too she says all babies are different. My baby is also on the chubbier side so may be more difficult to hold her weight lol Grin

All babies are different. My dd could say 4 or 5 words at 6 months and was talking in sentences by 16 months. She was late to walk. My sons speech was poor and only I understand what he was trying to say. He said Der Der dun dun for fire engine, dandy day for Auntie Kay and eventually Dummy for Mummy. He was walking independently at 10 months. Your dd may be a talker too. If she is chubby. She may take a bit longer with movement as she will have to lift her own weight. Once they start crawling they often lose some of their baby fat.

Your darling baby is fine. Make the most of her staying where you put her as once she's mobile you'll be run ragged! My son never crawled but just sat there like Buddha taking everything in, he started pulling himself up and went straight to walking so they are all different. I was glad my daughter used a playpen for my boisterous grandson - they do give you peace of mind when you need the loo or the doorbell rings!

Mine didn't roll until after she could crawl. I think she didn't see the point until then.
