Is anyone going to try and watch/see?

They're saying about 5am over the UK, hopefully with excellent visibility (Really hoping to catch a photo!)

Are there more predicted tonight?

The display is active up until the 25th so in theory yes..but also in theory last night was the best night - that said these showers sometimes throw up bursts of activity that weren't forecast outside of the predicted peak so if you do go looking you might see something.

We sat out for an hour last night 🥶 and saw a grand total of 3 🙄

CloakedRed · 22/04/2020 18:39

@Redwinestillfine was it between 3am and 3.30am? As my friend also saw 3 at that time as did I

Redwinestillfine · 22/04/2020 19:13

No I think we were back in the house by half 1!

GiantKitten · 22/04/2020 19:17

DH went up on a local fell between 3 & 5 and saw nothing except the dawn Hmm

Taddda · 23/04/2020 07:56

Was there anything last night?

Just for context the British Astronomical paper handbook (yes I really am that much of a geek) gives the maximum predicted rate for the Lyrids this year as being 15 meteors an hour

That would under dark skies/ideal viewing conditions.

I do get slightly gripped when I hear the newspapers telling people "meteor shower tonight at 10:15.." It's great when people go out and look, it's not so great when expectations get mismanaged.

notimagain · 23/04/2020 09:18

I'll add that the 15 an hours rate is a thing called the ZHR and is not "15 bright an meteors hour ", it covers any visible meteors, including faint ones...so I can perfectly understand if PP went out last night (post the peak) and only saw three or four bright ones in an hour or more.

I'd be happy to just see one tbh!

Thanks @notimagain for the geek links Smile

Nothing last night but I only stayed up until 2.30am. I am going to try the Star Walk app tonight and see how that goes.
