Does a Quooker tap make proper tea?

Kitchen is being redone and I’d really like a boiling water tap. But I’m a tea drinker and I’m worried that the tea won’t be the same. If you’re a tea lover - what do you think of them?

I'd like to know the answer to that too. I had a Grohe boiling water tap installed in my kitchen and the tea made with it just didn't taste right.

It tasted kind of disappointing, like tea made with water that is hot but not boiling which was hard to explain as I measured the temperature of the water from the kettle and water from the tap and it was exactly the same at 97 degrees. Maybe it's something to do with exposure to air as the water boils.

Apparently the Quooker makes 100 degree boiling water which might make better tea.

Absolutely, I have found you have to let it run for a few seconds first, mine is an older model though and it is a separate tap to our normal tap, I think the newer models are incorporated into a single tap.

BelfastNonBlonde · 21/04/2020 22:08

It’s just not hot enough.

I'm not an expert on this (and prepared to be corrected) but I think the problem is that the water is stored and kept hot by re-boiling frequently.

When shopping for a new kitchen a few years ago we had a demonstration of a Quooker. The sales chap made us a cup of tea using it. The tea tasted 'metallic', as though out of a kettle of water that had already been boiled dozens of times.
It was enough to put is off. We decided not to bother.

ChateauMyself · 21/04/2020 22:20

Quooker keeps the water above 100 degrees in the tank - I believe it’s the only boiling water tap available. The water then comes out at 100.

I’ve had mine for 12 years - have never noticed funny tasting tea.

Longdistance · 21/04/2020 22:29

We have one at work. It’s wonderful. Makes great tea.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 21/04/2020 22:34

I have one and it’s fabulous and wouldn’t be without it!

ColdToesHere · 21/04/2020 22:37

I wish we’d got one. Noisy kettle boiling and getting up and down lots when you’ve got a group of friends over is a pain in the backside.

superram · 21/04/2020 22:38

We have one at work, it’s not hot enough, even when run for a bit and doesn’t taste fresh.

Hopeandglory · 21/04/2020 22:40

I have a qettle and it makes perfect tea

Notwatchingtvtoday · 21/04/2020 22:41

We have one, it’s fabulous, we are in a hard water area so I also have the scale control.

Would not be without it.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 21/04/2020 22:49

They spoil the art of tea making! Part of the tea ritual is sticking the kettle on and having a natter while waiting for the kettle to boil, this also gives you time for a sneaky hob nob, sorry but a boiling hot water tap is just wrong!

MrsDrudge · 21/04/2020 22:49

We have a Quooker. Tea tastes metallic when we use it, whether we make in a teapot, or just using a bag in a cup. We bought a kettle and use that instead.

ParsnipToast · 21/04/2020 22:53

I don’t think it tastes as good as using a kettle. It could just be psychological, I love the ritual of putting the kettle on. It makes me feel good.

Purplewithred · 21/04/2020 23:24

I love our quooker, and I’m fussy about my tea. I would never be without one again.

LimitIsUp · 21/04/2020 23:31

Have not noticed a problem with my tea. Love it

GlamGiraffe · 21/04/2020 23:31

I come from a family of extremely fussy tea drinkers. We all have quookers. Theycl are excellent. Some of the other brands dont get hot enough and make weird tea. I've had my quooker for 10 years and it's still perfect. Tye water foesnt taste metallic at all. I'm really fussy and I'm certain it doesn't. (I also fill the pans from it for cooking pasta and rice to speed up cooking which is useful as it has a large tank). My sister has the newer combined tap and quooker, mine are separate. I personally prefer the separate ones, hers is impossible to operate.

Choccyp1g · 21/04/2020 23:43

I'd be more worried about coffee, as I think it is better to let the water cool down a bit before pouring into the cafetier.

Plus that disgusting advert where the child sucks the end of the tap puts me off.

Southwesterly · 21/04/2020 23:44

Friends with Quookers claim to be very fussy about tea and that they do, but given the odd-tasting stuff they then serve up, no, not in my experience.

TheFaerieQueene · 21/04/2020 23:46

I have one. It’s fabulous. I don’t have a kettle.

Davros · 22/04/2020 00:12

Coldtoeshere get a Sage Tea Maker

www.sageappliances.com/uk/en/products/tea/btm800.html

Expensive but really worth it, so much better than a kettle

Pipandmum · 22/04/2020 00:50

I have a quooker tap and love it - I will have it every home from now on! Makes a great cup of tea, coffee etc and makes cooking a lot quicker.

Ozgirl75 · 22/04/2020 06:15

No it’s horrible! My BIL have one and the tea at his house is undrinkable - not hot enough and there is always that white bubbly scum on top which comes from making tea not at boiling point.

Growingboys · 22/04/2020 07:04

No they're rubbish

BarbaraofSeville · 22/04/2020 07:05

Noisy kettle boiling and getting up and down lots when you’ve got a group of friends over is a pain in the backside

But surely the answer to that is to just use a teapot, not a tap that costs £££s? Tea made in mugs instead of a teapot is just wrong no matter how you boil the water, that's the problem.
