You might be able to catch a glimpse if you can get out now. I'm in the SW so they have not long hit our skies so to speak.

Ooh the website said 9.50 ish for me up north but I'll go check!

Communitygardener · 21/04/2020 22:00

Saw them over London about an hour ago. (if it helps anyone tracking them)

mineofuselessinformation · 21/04/2020 22:14

Caught a glimpse of them (although they're quite faint here) in east anglia just now.
Had to stare a bit to be sure as I've had a couple of glasses of wine!

Parkandride · 21/04/2020 22:15

We saw 1! Exactly the time and direction the site said, I thought it would be a chain so not sure if was on its own or if visibility of the others was poor

bettybattenburg · 21/04/2020 22:23

We've been watching them in Gloucestershire about 10-15 minutes ago and visible in the same direction as Jupiter which is incredibly bright tonight (as is Venus)

bettybattenburg · 21/04/2020 22:25

^ At least I think it's Jupiter, just double checking - Mars is still below the horizon .

SWnewstart · 21/04/2020 22:35

Passed over south Somerset at about 10.25pm - I'm no astronomer but can't fail to be in awe of the night sky on clear nights like this. Kind of humbling to glimpse "infinity up there" and realise just how small we are. Glad I went outside.

DarkPassenger · 22/04/2020 08:57

@Parkandride - You possibly just saw a random lone satellite. There are loads passing over in all directions and I usually see at least 3-5 individual ones during a 10 minute smoke outside.

I'm totally in awe at seeing them and how amazing that humans can do this but it's a double edged sword with feeling very sad for astonomers. Observations and astronomical photography are only going to become more difficult as more and more of these things are sent up there Sad

Those bloody things. Totally ruining my lockdown stargazing. I don't want a reminder of Elon Musk obscuring the Beehive Cluster

BarbaraofSeville · 22/04/2020 10:06

Where can we find out about these please? I've seen mention of them but when I Googled all the times were for the south and we're in Yorkshire so might be different and by then they might have passed anyway.

Therebythedoor · 22/04/2020 13:42

I've spent some time chilling my tits off for, admittedly, just two nights running hoping to spot them. The OH is really into this; I'm just there providing a second set of (unhelpful) eyes. We're in the south and there's quite a lot of light pollution around us - that's what I'm blaming it on!

Try this link for working out when and where to see them findstarlink.com/#52.63,North,1.08,West;3
