Are the government using fake social media accounts to push their agenda AGAIN?

Interesting allegation on twitter last night that a government department organised fake twitter accounts using photos of real NHS workers (without permission) to push an ‘end lockdown’ agenda.

It’s something this particular bunch have done before so shouldn’t be instantly dismissed.

People very much need reminding that there are definitely fake accounts posting on social media (including MN) and to be wary of people’s claims, and suspicious of people’s agendas.

Amen.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 21/04/2020 20:43

Wow. Good to know we voted these absolute horrors in again only a few months ago with a new and improved mandate for their nonsense. Fucking hell.

PerkingFaintly · 21/04/2020 21:34

Nothing proven, AllTheWhoresOfMalta. Trollery of some sort, clearly, but what sort and by whom, don't yet know.

Well, nothing recent proven. The CCHQ fake "factcheck" thing the Tories admitted to.

No origin for the Sunday Times claim of schools reopening in three weeks, either.

Education Secretary denies plan to reopen schools in three weeks

It has been known for the Government (any Government) to trial balloon something before it becomes official policy.

KrakowDawn · 21/04/2020 21:49

The ONS is not part of the government

@underneaththeash I think you'll find it is! It's a non-ministerial department of HM's government, like CPS or HMRC are.

underneaththeash · 21/04/2020 21:51

@noblegiraffe - no I'm still to getting it. The schools ARE still open for key workers - they will allow more children to attend as more businesses open safety.
Everything needs to be done gradually and with minimal risk.
You're an exceptionally good example of how far left politics is dangerous - so thank you for posting.

luckylavender · 21/04/2020 21:57

@DisgraceToTheYChromosome - well they're getting away with it.

Easilyanxious · 21/04/2020 22:21

Some of you really do have too much time on your hands and chose to believe the stories that fit your agenda and dis believe what doesn't
Personally I believe very little of what I read until I have researched as best I can and that's coming from both left and right wing as they are all as bad as one another

chomalungma · 21/04/2020 22:27

But when?
3 weeks - or was that just some Government spin put out as a feeler by Cummings?

Far left Grin

I don't believe much of what comes out of this Government's mouth.
They have a reputation for lying and manipulation

And there are a lot of accounts that appear on social media that are massively supportive of the Government no matter what they do.

user1471565182 · 21/04/2020 22:29

Loads of Nigerians on Facebook who are coincidentally massive Boris Johnson fans.....

PerkingFaintly · 21/04/2020 22:36

Confused So how are they "reopening in three weeks" then? Your post makes no sense, underneaththeash.

Also, why are you attempting to score political points while saying no one should be attempting to score political points?

Meanwhile, for those who've just joined: there's no publicly available evidence about who was running a fake Twitter account, falsely claiming to be an NHS doctor and tweeting pro-Johnson material. Could have been anyone.

Really? Weird, given that I’m not far left. You can search my posts.

You’ve not refuted any of my three points, but you have attacked my imagined politics. How unexpected.

BBC R4 today reported that empty critical care beds are at their highest ever level. And there are lots of reports of empty hospitals.

Some people here seem to be very afraid of any line other than ‘crisis’, or ‘we are all going to die’.

user1471565182 · 21/04/2020 23:10

If Johnson had done this it would surely mean he'd actually have to do some fucking work for once, so Im ruling it out.

user1471565182 · 21/04/2020 23:12

far left lololololol. Proof once more the Right is hugely lacking in the intelligence stakes.
