Can you get a blood test for everyday conditions at the moment?

I have multiple symptoms of having a thyroid issue. I need to have a blood test. Is there an ice cube’s chance in hell of getting one? Can this sort of thing be done privately?

Not at our surgery
They’ve stopped doing any routine stuff at all
I have monthly blood tests which I’m not supposed to miss I had to jump through hoops and insist they see me- normally they chase me for it

You could call and ask the practice nurse to call you back and discuss it I suppose

Not at my surgery either. I rang up a couple of weeks ago.

And mine is a massive deterioration in symptoms.

Depends on why you need them. If it's just to check hormone levels then it's unlikely but if the meds you are on could damage other organs then yes they will do them. You need to ring and speak to your gp.

I had a blood test yesterday to check my cholesterol which is pretty run of the mill so I'd say yes but it depends where you are I suppose.

I did have a thyroid test at mine this week, but it wasn't straightforward.

I had already been tested in early Feb and the TSH was high, but the GP wanted to test again in a couple of months.

I'm feeling much worse now, so I rang to follow up. Initially the receptionist said they aren't doing blood tests, but offered to get a doctor to ring me back with advice.

The doctor who called back looked at the previous results offered to book a test in a few weeks.

Then a bit later the surgery called back with an appointment for this week.

I'm praying that the result will be enough for them to agree to treat it now-- I can't eat, can't poo, and can't stay awake for longer than a couple of hours at a time!

Goodness @WhoWants2Know that sounds awful Sad

It does suck, but it does show that it's worth talking to the surgery and trying for a phone appointment. Although they don't want to put people at unnecessary risk by coming in for nonessential appointments, they also don't want people to develop serious conditions by staying away.

I had one carried out in the GPs car park two weeks ago as I am shielded but need bloods taken regularly to check my meds aren't damaging me.

I guess each surgery is different.
