Who has linen sheets?

Thinking of splashing out on some new bedding and I'm wondering if I should go for linen this time. How does it compare to cotton in terms of coolness/cosiness, washability etc?

We love them. Cool, lovely on skin, and a comfy feeling I can't explain! Never used out White Company cotton ones since...

They do sag though in the same way linen trousers do. Or at least ours do!

TK Maxxset so not super expensive- perhaps £50 on sale for a double x

Sorry the bagginess goes when washed! Harder to iron but perhaps that is our combi washer dryer as it creases everything!

Wow I’ve never heard of linen sheets. My first thought was that they would sag. But I’m keen to know more about the benefits!

I have cotton sheets from John Lewis and love them.
Great price and you don’t need to iron them .

GrimDamnFanjo · 21/04/2020 01:38

I adore my linen sheets. Nothing comparable. I get mine from soak and sleep. And I don't iron them!

Ooh I didn't think of looking in TKMaxx, yes that does sound like a good price compared to other places I've looked. I'm liking the idea more and more.

Yes it was a great place to buy as cheaper than others we had seen. I think they were on sale, or at least two of the pillowcases and the bottom sheet were. I can't explain how nice they feel but I would never buy a cheap set again.

We don't iron them as think that linen can cope with creases more than cotton! Smile

I've got Soak and Sleep ones as well, got them for my bed as I'm a seaty betty at night and have replaced them on the other beds. DS loves his but more I think as they have a massive depth so are easy to put on

mrwalkensir · 21/04/2020 21:00

they need to be fairly thick. Bought lovely irish linen once that were fairly lightweight and they tore badly after only about a year

We have one linen duvet and pillow set from the white co and I personally wouldn’t rebuy them. They are fairly heavy and a bit rough against the skin (if you sleep in the buff). I also find them a bit hot. It’s a no from me but but do wonder if the roughness is down to my poor laundry skills!

minipie · 21/04/2020 21:09

Only if you (or someone else) is going to iron them.

TheChosenTwo · 21/04/2020 21:45

We have a set, also from soak and sleep which I see have had a few mentions on here!
They are nice but when i use them, I send them out to be ironed. Personally I wouldn’t rebuy, they were very expensive for sheets that aren’t notably more comfortable than the Egyptian cotton sheets we have from M&S which, although are a tad crumply, don’t need sending out for ironing!

BringMeTea · 21/04/2020 22:26

Yes but sending linen out for ironing sounds wonderful. Very grand. Recalling a bygone era.

TheChosenTwo · 22/04/2020 10:47

I send ours with our cleaner, she also takes in ironing! It’s only about once a month as I change my sheets weekly and we have 4 sets, our linen ones go at the end of the month with a few other things, we don’t really have much to be ironed at all but it’s a service she offers and we are grateful for it!
