Best bits of the U.K. (holidays)

We’re planning to holiday in the U.K. once this is all over. Usually go abroad and only do short/day trips in the U.K. so looking for tips and hidden gems so we can fill a week or even two!

We’ll be driving from London, 2 adults, 2yo, 6mo.

What’s your favourite place to holiday in the U.K.?

So many places, but with 2 tinies I'd recommend the Isle of Wight. My personal favourites (West Penwith and the Northumberland coast past Seahouses) are a good 6 hours drive.

Gower 😍

Terralee · 20/04/2020 15:18

The Purbecks

Elouera · 20/04/2020 15:24

Suffolk or Norfolk coast. Not as busy as say Cornwall and other seaside areas, and some lovely places to stay. I'm sure there are others, but recall Cromer and Great Yarmouth when we last went several years ago.

Wotrewelookinat · 20/04/2020 15:26

Dorset, loads to do with little ones.
Suffolk coast, beautiful beaches.
Pembrokeshire if you want to travel further.

Gower - Oxwich, Rhossili, Three Cliffs Bay, Mumbles, Joes ice cream, Pobbles, Port Eynon, I can't even begin to describe the loveliness of the area. Oystermouth castle in Mumbles is fantastic and often has special days on for visitors, too.

Wow thanks everyone, have been searching Google images- some amazing places for us to consider!

Isle of Wight is great for kids that age, starting with the ferry ride.

Cornwall - also a good young family destination - beaches, magical coves etc

neversleepagain · 20/04/2020 20:50

We have young DC and have been going to Cornwall every summer since they were tiny. We have family and a holiday house available in the Mediterranean but choose Cornwall every time.
I would recommend the north west, places around the Padstow area.

Pippapotomus · 20/04/2020 20:50

Norfolk Broads, Isle of Wight and Cornwall.

flowerycurtain · 20/04/2020 21:01

North wales.

Castles, beaches, mountains.

yestonodressyet · 20/04/2020 21:04

We've recently done Isle of Wight with a 2yr from London, got a great Airbnb in vintner and loads to do on the island. Otherwise I'd say Dorset, not too far and done really beautiful beaches, look at studland bay/corfe castle/durdle door etc

Joyfulincolour · 20/04/2020 21:13

Southwold in Suffolk and Wells next to the Sea in Norfolk are beautiful. Both have lovely beaches and are prefect for your children’s ages.

trilbydoll · 20/04/2020 21:16

Northumberland, miles of empty beaches. We stayed in Seahouses a few years ago and had a great time.

We love North Devon too, I don't know how many times we have been but I don't think we manage more than about 18 months without going!

fairydustandpixies · 20/04/2020 21:24

Isle of Wight or Cornwall!

Grumpbum123 · 20/04/2020 21:34

VivaLeBeaver · 20/04/2020 21:54

North Norfolk
Tenby
New forest
Lake District

rosy71 · 20/04/2020 21:55

Pembrokeshire - absolutely loads to do there: beautiful beaches, castles, coastal walks, Folly Farm, dinosaur park in Tenby.

BackforGood · 20/04/2020 21:57

From London with tiny ones, I'd suggest Swanage. Lovely flat beach and soft sand.
Or Bournemouth /Boscombe
Or North Norfolk Coast

Goostacean · 20/04/2020 22:24

Northumberland is very far for us... some lovely places listed, thank you very much! Will look into several. I’ve been to the Norfolk Broads and I think they’re possibly a bit dull for a toddler, but I know there’s lots to do in the surrounding areas plus the beaches. We saw a seal on the beach when I went last year!
