Weighted blanket - all natural fabric but plastic beads?

Are there any like this? (With fabric inner all natural as well, not just a cotton cover over synthetic stuffing.)

The beads need to be plastic, as realistically it will end up being stood on or have stuff piled up on it sometimes, and that seems a very bad idea with glass beads.

This combination of materials seems obvious for something popular with autistic kids, but it seems surprisingly hard to find.

It should be suitable for summer temperatures, not warm and woolly.

Wooden beads ?

Small glass beads like those in the blankets are actually a lot stronger than you think.

Many (many) years ago, I used to work in a lab and we had a "bath" for heating solutions, which included a tank of tiny glass beads as the temperatures we used for some things was higher than the boiling point of water. Those beads survived some tough situations.

I have a Koala blanket... Has glass beads in it but never had any problems with the beads breaking ect.

You'd have to contact someone who makes them and have one made to your spec. Most of them seem to be fleece on at least one side! But it's totally doable. I made one for my own child with cotton but it was such a massive ballache to sew that I am never going there again!

I have a senso-Rex one. It is really good but pricey (~£100). As far as I can tell, the beads aren’t glass and the material is all cotton but check to make sure

Witchend · 18/04/2020 22:37

Wouldn't plastic beads be a lot lighter, which might defeat the purpose of the blanket?

slipperywhensparticus · 18/04/2020 22:38

Poly beads are lighter I'm sure somewhere does a metal type of bead...

SerfNTerf · 18/04/2020 22:39

Poly pellets are really heavy and a standard filling for weighted blankets. They are cheaper than glass and easier to work with as they don't break your sewing machine needles if you accidentally sew over one!

Try asking sellers on Etsy if someone can make one for you
