They are 12&14. I think this would be a great life skill to learn while they are home.

What is a good online course- have googled but none the wiser!

Great idea and definitely a life skill that will help them in future .
Try the website howtotype.com there are lessons , games and tests on there it's all free 😃

springydaff · 18/04/2020 21:47

It's a brilliant skill, totally worth learning, especially at their age. Actually, any age!

Bravo mum.

schoolcook · 18/04/2020 21:58

There's a thread in chat on this.
I think I'm using typing club and am really enjoying it.
It's not easy though I wish I'd paid attention as a teen !

Try ‘typing at the speed of thought’ the website is keybr

My son loved it as it was colour coded and gave him charts.

It’s a brilliant skill to have

GreenTulips · 18/04/2020 22:04

Typing club is good and free

HerRoyalNotness · 18/04/2020 22:05

Typetastic is what I’m encouraging mine to use

TigerDroveAgain · 18/04/2020 22:06

It’s the most useful skill I’ve ever learnt. I did a course at our local CFE about 35 years ago!

I’m a lawyer and am completely self sufficient with typing, whether emails or longer documents and I type quicker than many of our PAs.

There are lots of online courses so I would really recommend it.

BBC used to have a page called Dance Mat which was v good.

YouJustDoYou · 18/04/2020 22:06

I was 6 when my school did touch typing lessons (back in the 80s), it's served me extremely well all through my life! Definitely definitely worth it.

Pyjamasarethenewblack · 18/04/2020 22:09

BBC Dancemat is still available and brilliant to get you started.

NotMeNoNo · 18/04/2020 22:13

Ds learned with Ultrakey, cost a few £.

Blueblackrose · 18/04/2020 22:24

Brilliant thanks - i had heard of dancemat already and I will check out the others. I'm keen to hit a good one first off so as not to kill any enthusiasm.

I learned my 6th year of high school and really wished I had learned sooner- but 6th year is the time in Scotland where you have time to do stuff like this. It is the best thing really and I can't understand why they don't teach it sooner. Dd2 can use a computer for exams as she is hypermobile and has an OT assessment so it is a no brainer- only issue is school aren't going to teach her to type, she needs to learn herself.

I didn't register your DC's ages. Dancemat is aimed at primary children (although I did all the levels on mat leave and thoroughly enjoyed it!)

Milomonster · 19/04/2020 01:08

DS 9 did an online course organized through school last week. I’m amazed that he can type with stickers covering all letters. Needs to build in speed now. They used Nessy Fingers software.

Blondie1092 · 19/04/2020 01:12

Another one vouching for BBC dance mat 🙋🏼‍♀️ as a teacher I used it weekly with my class. However I am partial to a little challenge on it myself 😂

Qgardens · 19/04/2020 01:27

www.typing.com/student/lessons

Don't know what this is like but I saved it as I thought it looked good.

Runkatierun · 19/04/2020 07:18

Great skill for them mum! My dds are too young to learn (5 and under) but I will definitely get them taught. It's a skill that has definitely pushed me slightly further ahead of others in job interviews.
