Anybody lost that last stone?

Really want to lose the last stone but it won't blooming budge!!!
Any success stories? I understand it's basic science, calories in vs calories out but I exercise at a high level for an hour 6 days a week and track my calories via MFP and am consistently under.... but nope... not going?!

If you read up on lchf/keto then the calories in/out is pretty much debunked.

Also watch The Magic Pill on Netflix which explains a lot of the stuff behind the 'diet industry'.

Basically, the science behind this is that it's insulin and the way our bodies metabolize carbs that is the issue rather than fat.

I dont follow keto but I do low carb and the weight has dropped off.

I'm into the last stone now. Loads of energy, never hungry, eating well and the weight it still going.

Whatever method you choose, good luck.

I don’t agree about calories. I think they really really matter abs you have to eat a lot less of them than you think.

justanotherneighinparadise · 18/04/2020 11:57

I completely agree about insulin though 👍

A calorie deficit will lead to weight loss but not in the long term - that's why people return to WW and SW time and time again. Because a low calorie diet just isnt sustainable in the long term.

And the OP is finding herself that low calorie isnt yielding a weight loss any more. If exercise and low cal was all it took, she wouldn't be struggling now.

I've found a nutrient rich low carb way of eating to be much better in many respects.

happychatty · 18/04/2020 12:09

Yes, low carb is interesting and lots of research to back it up.

Slimming world and weight watchers isn't low calorie though... low fat is the key to that one!

Maybe it's just simply a case of one size doesn't fit all? Very interesting though...

Ah, never done SW. I did WW once and constantly felt hungry and deprived. It did seem to be pretty low calorie!

But low carb is definitely the way to go for me.

KellyHall · 18/04/2020 12:19

Low carbs make me want to cry! I have to reduce my portion sizes and exercise more. I've done neither in lockdown, I've gone from being 2lbs off my target to having a whole stone to lose again 😢

nevergoingoutagain · 18/04/2020 12:29

Intermittent fasting. I've lost a stone doing this. Read the book delay don't deny by gin Stephens and the obesity code by dr fung. Then join the delay don't deny group on fb.

happychatty · 18/04/2020 12:31

@KellyHall it's hard at the moment definitely!

@nevergoingoutagain ooo ok.. will check this out! Thank you!

@Whaddyathinkofthis would you mind sharing what you would eat in a typical day please? I think low carb would work for me but I love carbs. I don’t eat eggs either.

justanotherneighinparadise · 18/04/2020 13:11

Oh yes intermittent fasting definitely works. I start eating at around 12.30 each day and finish before 8pm. However to really lose weight I have to intermittently fast for much longer.

Can anyone spot when lockdown started?! SadSadHmm

Anybody lost that last stone?

Joyfulincolour

Difficult to say what a typical day is.

Breakfast - I tend to follow 16:8 so i don't really eat breakfast but I never really have done. I leave for work at 7.15 so not really got time.

Lunch - salad with protein, eg chicken and bacon; yesterday, we had salad with cubed belly pork; baked camembert with celery sticks; smoked salmon and scrambled egg or cream cheese and salad; streaky bacon with fried egg; mozzarella, tomato and cucumber salad. Salad is usually dressed with light olive oil. That kind of thing.

Evening - spaghetti bol with courgetti but I use 20+% mince and add chopped red pepper and pancetta; chilli/curry with cauliflower rice; tonight we're having chicken thighs with a garlic, mushroom and cream sauce with broccoli; steak and a side salad; salmon and brocolli; roast chicken just without the carby extras; pork/lamb chops with veg; oily fish with salad or veg...

I don't eat fruit with the exception of a handful of berries (eg blueberries, raspberries, strawberries) with whipped cream.

I dont have a sweet tooth at all and find a lot of fruit is too sweet for me so didnt eat much anyway. But I avoid starchy carbs - eg root veg - with the exception of swede in moderation and celeriac which makes amazing roast potatoes and chips! So I watch which veg I add to meals.

We snack on guacamole with edam crisps and i have 100% chocolate occasionally.

If you look on the diet doctor website, there are loads of recipes on there.

I don't eat diet or low fat versions of anything and try to eat 'clean' so very little in the way of processed foods and I avoid all added sugars. Although I do sometimes indulge in a bit of paté.

Butter, cream, veg, oily fish and meat are your friends. I also generally avoid seed oils and stick to olive oil (extra virgin is best).

I try and keep my carbs below 20g a day but do go up to 40g sometimes. The main thing is that I'm always full and never feel I'm depriving myself.

The hardest thing for me was giving up beer - I'm a member of camra and love beer festivals! But I've discovered quite a taste for gin... 🤣

Like i say, i have more energy, my skin is better, I sleep better, I don't get bloated... I kind of float between keto and low carb.

HTH!

Whaddyathinkofthis · 18/04/2020 14:52

Just to add, it's the fat that keeps you feeling full and makes things taste nice so you feel satisfied and less tempted to snack.

Aaaahhhndrea · 18/04/2020 14:57

🙋🏽‍♀️ Me. Dropped from nearly 10st to 9st, but I’m very short so still pudgy. My mum and most female relatives are all around 8st but I can’t shift any more.

I have a sustainable diet and exercise routine so think I might need to accept the pudge

EngagedAgain · 18/04/2020 15:08

I managed it by completely cutting out cheese and snacks, whether sweet or savoury. I'd also say by keeping animal fats to a bare minimum and sugar. At one point the only extra I was eating was 2 squares of 85% chocolate. I weren't eating much at all, but felt healthy because what I did eat was healthy food. However, I think it worked because I am in my 60's and have retired, so don't need as much. A younger person would just need more of the 'good' food. Anyway after managing this for about ten months, since lockdown I've fallen off the wagon a bit. I'm eating more snacks, cheese and white bread and more bread than usual. So need to get back on the wagon!

Joyfulincolour · 18/04/2020 22:53

Thanks @ Whaddyathinkofthis. I will look into it.
