Anyone not skyping/zooming/facetiming their friends and family

The very thought of it... I ring my mother every day and take her shopping once a week. She has a big garden so we sit apart, have a quick chat and I leave.

I Facetime my sister sometimes by accident and promptly switch off the camera. I don't feel I'm missing anything by not joining. I'll wait till the end and have a big party and hug everyone in person.

I do call my friends on the phone for a chat, I'm not completely antisocial but the thoughts of 9 of us on a zoom chat waiting our turns to speak. Can you have a break out convo with just one of them while the rest chat on?

Am I alone in not feeling like I'm missing anything by avoiding the video convos?

Nope. None of that. Have not got the technology. I don;t have internet at home. I do email or text them though. Don't even know what facetime is!

Nope. I will call and send messages. I've surprised myself as apart from my mum, I dont actually miss anyone. Dh is way sociable and runs all sorts with groups of his friends.

I do end up using it a lot tbh

use WhatsApp video with family, more about video it on and just having a natter like they are in the room, and we have young kids so their attention span with just voice is pretty low

Use lots of zoom for work, probably 6-7 hours a day so get a bit tired of being on camera, mainly stayed off yesterday

I used Whatsapp video with a friend the other day probably out of habit and it was good just a bit odd as we normally speak on the phone

MrsJonesAndMe · 18/04/2020 10:18

I will only video call my parents and DH his - for the purpose of letting the kids see the GPs and vice versa. We normally do MIL about once a month and my parents probably once every 2 months. That hasn't really changed - but we did do my parents twice in 3 weeks as it was Easter and the children had chocolate to show off Wink

The thought of doing it with friends - no thanks!

bullied I leave the house once a week to do my shopping. My mother is 73 and in Ireland has to 'cocoon'. I get her what she needs. I drop it to her house in the countryside. We sit in a garden 2 metres apart for a chat. I leave. Not sure where you reckon I'm seeing her too often.

Shirley If you are out with a group of friends are you telling me you never have a one to one chat with one of those friends? I'm not suggesting you break away for the night. But we would occasionally have a few words and then rejoin the group.

I do understand small children and grandparents. We used to skype the inlaws regularly when the dcs were small and we lived abroad. Now they can chat to them on the phone.

I read ‘take her shopping once a week’ as ‘take her out to the shops once a week’ at first, then realised you meant you take shopping to her. Maybe that’s where bullied is getting it from.

Apologies, yes, she texts me her list, I buy and take her shopping to her.

We've lived abroad for a long time so we've always done a fair bit of Facetiming.

My nieces and nephews seem to grow about 3" each time I see them. Last time I saw one of my nephews he'd had his hair clippered and looked totally different.

Right now I do treasure those glimpses into their lives. One side of the family has all had Covid and it was very difficult being so far away. It's been good to Facetime them since and see them all looking well.

A lot of my family are NHS frontline workers so I do worry and feel a very long way away right now.
