What can I give back?

My LO spent last week in a children’s ward - very poorly and will probably need long term care.

The staff were amazing.

What can we look to give as a gift? I know lots of people are giving care packages, so wanted to give a different thank you. Is there something that we could buy that would be well received and longer lasting? Even something like a nice coffee machine?!

Also the same but what could we buy for the ward itself?

Really keen to hear from those that work in hospitals as to what would be good ideas. Thank you!

Cheap coffee or hot choc machine?

For the staff kitchen? What about the ward? Would something like PlayStations be appropriate?

OP I appreciate you're grateful to the staff. But if this thread is serious, seriously no. You don't spend PlayStation kind of money just to say thank you to the ward staff for caring for your child. They do it because it's their job. A small token gift as a thank you with a card, fine. Huge gifts like that are just a bit weird...

Right now some nice hand cream might be appreciated.

I meant for the ward. There isn’t much for the older children to do, so actually was a genuine suggestion to donate for older children to use

I appreciate its their job but I also appreciate just how amazing they are, which is why I wanted to give something back to the staff and also think about a gift for the ward.

Apologies that I have managed to offend you in some way

Our local hospital has a charity trust. Many do. Make a donation and write a nice card to the staff.

What is much more appreciated is a card/ email, especially if it is copied to the head of the department, and especially if there is something personal: "Nurse Sarah was fantastic at calming Jimmy when he was anxious...". These can be used for appraisals and are treasured by the staff much more than an object.

Phone chargers or power banks.

Speak to the ward manager. I work on a children's ward. We have had patients' families fundraise to buy specific equipment or things like play stations. Cards are very much appreciated as are small gifts, but, if you really want to donate something larger, it can be done but is by no means expected.
