God, some people are LOVING this, aren't they?...

They're, for example, the local Tesco queue 'managers' who are actually doing this ✋ in people's faces, well within 2m of them, eyes ablazing, missionary zeal within their hearts- who are using zero common sense, when everyone is already doing the best they can in a Tesco Local, to stay apart.

You invaded my space (and that of the 'one out' I was about to replace by being 'one in') in dashing out 🤚 and stopping me entering your store because I stepped forward to wipe the handles of my basket. A good 2m from anyone, except you. As invited to do so, by your big sign.

You stood in 4 people's space. Me, you, the couple exiting the shop.

Use your intelligence. Like stand outside the store door, like your colleague suggested to you, under a balcony, on a beautiful day. And like the usual security guard manages.

We're all under pressure. We're all stressed. And in classic MN fashion, I PPE up close to actual Covid patients, every day.

So don't be a dick, Tesco assistant.

S/he is trying to do a job in stressful circumstances. I went to Tesco today and the staff were all working very hard and very polite. Of course there are rules, but that is hardly their fault is it?!

Sparklingbrook · 16/04/2020 23:39

OMG such drama. I think you need to let it lie and go to another supermarket next time.

Helmlover1 · 16/04/2020 23:43

Get over yourself, OP. You broke the rules by going into the shop when you should have waited. Thats your fault, not the store assistant’s.

What’s so special about you that you don’t have to adhere to the rules that everyone else has to?

GrumpyHoonMain · 16/04/2020 23:46

It’s mostly the new staff that are doing the outdoor stuff. Our Tesco Manager said they had the experienced staff either on the shop floor or training in the back.

Miljea · 16/04/2020 23:49

I'm sorry. I am actually gaming you. I didn't want to- I was quite angry, initially, at the behaviour of this petit tyrant, she who had, by her fellow employee's own suggestion, failed to handle her 'new role' intelligently- STAND OUTSIDE TO MANAGE THE QUEUE LIKE THE REST OF US DO (rather than tuck yourself away, just inside the door, hidden from the queuing public, outside, but ready to pounce, then humiliate the unwitting transgressor!)

However. I apologise. I now recognise that you're clinging onto any authority, however undeserved, to anchor your lives. Many really, really need to be directed, as, surely, they're right? We must obey, otherwise, where would we be?

......?

OP posts:
FamilyOfAliens · 16/04/2020 23:51

OP, you sound like you need some sleep - go to bed, have sweet dreams and wake up determined not to be such a dick.

Zorayda · 16/04/2020 23:53

What did you say? That seems to be missing from your description. Did you apologise and fume silently or make a scene?

Miljea · 16/04/2020 23:54

Helmlover

What did I do wrong?

No one was visibly managing the queue.
What dictated that I 'should have waited'? The person in front of me as stated in my OP walked in as a previous shopper walked out. No one directed him in. From my vantage point..

What 'rule' did I break?

Sparklingbrook · 16/04/2020 23:55

Let.It.Go.

Miljea · 17/04/2020 00:03

I have, sparklingbrook Via a written complaint to the Tesco store. At 56, first in my life.

So, not my style.

But if you're going to impose your Roolz on us, do it properly. Like all the other Tesco, and private security staff seem able to comply with.

OP posts:
Miljea · 17/04/2020 00:07

family how sweet. Thank you. However, my dreams are increasingly Covid laden! How can I get, in my working life, within 12 inches of this ICU ventilated Covid patient and hope I don't get it, thus, transfer it to my children?

Sweet dreams to you and yours.

You Know Nothing.

OP posts:
Zorayda · 17/04/2020 00:08

Please do say that you didn't unleash any of this vitriol at the shop assistant, and saved it for your online audience

Miljea · 17/04/2020 00:10

Z For the first time in my life, I wrote a complaint to her manager.

I didn't seek to humiliate her, publicly, as she sought to humiliate me.

OP posts:
Zorayda · 17/04/2020 00:14

That's admirable, and you should be proud for that. These are hard times. Give yourself some recognition for stepping back, and now that you've addressed the problem so the manager can provide training, you've done all you can, and can rest.
Take care x

Miljea · 17/04/2020 00:16

Z exactly. Training needs must be addressed.

I am genuinely pleased that someone has recognised that there was some deficit in this regard.

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 17/04/2020 00:18

Jesus, you sound like my mother.

Why do you think she was tucked away? Probably because she’s fucking terrified! But well done you making that complaint.

Sparklingbrook · 17/04/2020 00:20

If you have a Blue Light Card you get priority queuing at Waitrose. That might be more up your street?

Bluebooby · 17/04/2020 00:20

Like my scenario, had many of you had the imagination to follow my description, as posted, already said!!

Your description wasn't clear at all.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/04/2020 00:22

I didn’t know about the priority Waitrose queuing, might have to do that.

Zorayda · 17/04/2020 00:23

@Khione said it better than I did, and earlier. Personally, I think Tesco should have SIA licensed staff managing the entrances at the moment; it's not traditional shop work and the time hasn't allowed for training to take place.
As security myself, managing a queue is more difficult than it looks, especially if everyone is tense, and new staff need to be shown rather than given instructions.
I hope today (Friday) is a better day

Miljea · 17/04/2020 00:30

Z you've changed your tune! You were all over me for being a biatchhh!. Now you're conceding queue management needs some training!

Yes, it does. And I hand that to the professionals. Thus find Tesco Sandra humiliating me in Tesco because she didn't know what the fuck she was doing- unacceptable,

OP
Hence my complaint.

OP posts:
Miljea · 17/04/2020 00:36

Viva wish I could just 'tuck myself away when I was terrified' as ICU wheel their next Covid positive patient down to me for a scan.

Which is why I am so much less forgiving of the untrained, reactionary, rude petit tyrant managing, or not - of a Tesco queue, than you.

OP posts:
booearing · 17/04/2020 00:42

My eldest son is at uni and he has a part time job in a pub normally
He has been able to get a job in Tescos and he has been spoken to worse in Tescos than in the pub when people are drunk.
I feel sorry for the staff in supermarkets at the moment having to deal with some real nasty customers.

Daffodil55 · 17/04/2020 01:09

My two pence worth on this one.

Over the last few weeks I have come across some lovely friendly supermarket staff/door and security staff but also some not so nice and a couple of times I was mildly told off for accidentally breaking a rule or two. It was purely a case of concentration lapse for a second or two and nothing more. One time at the self check out till something happened with the till and the assistant came over. She told me she would not attend the till until I moved away to a safe distance. Fine and I did it without question. I noticed though that some of her colleagues were within inches of customers so obviously not so strict. It would not occur to me to complain or moan as my main thought when going shopping is thank goodness there are people willing to work in them! Without that we would all be up shit creek.

Yes some sales staff seem to let a bit of authority go to their heads but they are in a very risky job albeit shelf stackers or till operators. I am thankful I do not need to go out and work during this awful time.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 17/04/2020 01:40

When it was my turn to go in, the guy who was managing the queue at Tesco today, asked if I was familiar with the system. He explained that it was strictly one way system. If you forget an item you cannot go back for it, you have to keep moving forward and go down all the aisles, regardless of whether you want anything. So, off I toddled, doing everything by the book. Woman comes up towards me and gave me a hard time for standing and waiting for her to finish what she was doing, before proceeding myself. Cocky bitch.
