Will you be signing up for the contact tracing service?

If you have a smart phone will you be signing up for the government/Apple/Android contact tracing service to be alerted if you've been in contact somebody with Covid 19?

No, I'm not going anywhere apart from work. That's a supermarket so it doesn't involve prolonged contact with anybody but brief, passing contact with hundreds of people. I'll never be in the close contact/high risk group so knowing that I've been around somebody who's become ill serves no point apart from to make me worry, probably unnecessarily.

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 16/04/2020 16:49

Will only consider it if it's also linked up with testing. Otherwise it's pointless and open to interpretation.

I walked within a metre of someone who has tested positive for a couple of seconds. So what?

StrawberryBlondeStar · 16/04/2020 16:52

Those talking about testing. How long after contact does it take for someone to show positive on an antigen test?

No but only because I live alone bar my toddler and I'm in the shielding group so seeing nobody. Everything is being contact free delivered and I am throughly cleaning anything that comes in.

Ciwirocks · 16/04/2020 16:56

Yes absolutely and I think it should be compulsory if it is proven to be of benefit. If it’s what it takes for us to get back out into society and feel safer I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t.

squishedgrapes · 16/04/2020 16:56

I will. I'm pretty certain the govt has all my data anyway

PhilCornwall1 · 16/04/2020 16:57

No, I won't be. I have zero faith in the government to handle data in a secure manner.

If they try to mandate it, I will get rid of my phone. I have no trust in them whatsoever.

ofwarren · 16/04/2020 16:58

Along with antibody testing, yes I would.

midgebabe · 16/04/2020 16:59

I understand that the rule will be something like

Within 2 meters of someone for at least 15 minutes

That's the rule used in South Korea ( until they let people who were mixing with quarentined people wander free anyway )

Yes testing would be needed, but they are saying that you would need to contact people on identification of symptoms. Not wait for testing, which could release you early from isolation

Snaga · 16/04/2020 17:05

No. For the same reason I don't use Alexa and have disabled all voice and location tracking on my phone/devices.

I don't trust the powers that be with that data and how they plan to leverage it in the future.

If our government had a robust testing policy I'd be more inclined towards supporting their endeavours but they've been shocking from the start. This app is very much bolting the barn door shut after the horses have galloped away.

TowerRingInferno · 16/04/2020 17:08

No

PowerslidePanda · 16/04/2020 17:24

Although the lack of help for the self isolating who can't get tested and have to go to the shops to eat ...

An early article I saw said that as an incentive, the app might provide priority delivery slots to any users who have to self isolate.

midgebabe · 16/04/2020 17:28

I don't trust the government but they will be very public about what data is collected ..the code is to be open source.

The government does not need , and will not collect your location data at all to do this.

There is also no need to actually store any personally identifying data at all.

You need a link to your data which enables you to tag if you may be a victim. Like your username on here rather than your real name and address and phone number...an anonymous account.

Other people only see that someone they had contact with are a victim. The data would not enable you to tell who it was, or where it was. They don't even get to see your username.

BreathlessCommotion · 16/04/2020 18:08

Have you seen that the Google and Apple won't take part because the government won't agree to keep it anonymous?

And how limited it will actually be?

Lots of data experts have said what they are proposing would be easily hackable. I don't want to be identified by my phone or where I've been. I don't want my abusive stbxh hacking it and tracking me either.

BreathlessCommotion · 16/04/2020 18:10

And I don't need an app to feel safe. We CAN'T eliminate this virus now. It's too late. We are doing lockdown to protect the NHS, not save lives.

hyacinthbouquetsbucket · 16/04/2020 18:11

I won't be signing up for it. I do have an Alexa but whenever it's on I have the mic turned off, i turn it on to tell it to play my music and then the mic goes off and stays off.

Yes definitely.
Anything to get normality back eventually.
Also if and when I do go back to work I see a lot of people and would want to know if I need to isolate.

Mucklowe · 16/04/2020 20:20

FUCK no.

underneaththeash · 16/04/2020 20:26

I'm not usually keen about being tracked, but for this yes. (I'm not keen on either registering my Oyster card or having an Alexa).
It will help us get through the pandemic much quicker - I want my normal life back even if it means a little loss of anonimity for a little bit.

The shorter the lockdown, the less impact on the economy and everything it supports - the NHS, schools, social care, universities, roads. You'd need to be pretty short-sighted to say no.

MrsSnitchnose · 16/04/2020 20:32

*No. For the same reason I don't use Alexa and have disabled all voice and location tracking on my phone/devices.

^This. I won't ever have an Alexa modern day wire tap in the house

Neverenoughcoffee · 16/04/2020 21:20

I don't know. My gut reaction is no, but I'm trying to be open minded. I'm surprised at how many have said they wouldn't.

zen1 · 16/04/2020 21:23

No, absolutely not. For the same reason as others who don’t have Alexa etc
