Eustachian tubes blocked

My Eustachian tubes have been blocked since I had a cold in January. Does anyone have any DIY cures? Steam inhalations?

Bump as curious myself, mine is blocked and crackles whenever there's a mildly loud noise

hyacinthbouquetsbucket · 16/04/2020 21:50

I was told by a GP to hold my noise and try to blow hard out of my mouth but keep it closed, it makes your ears pop. I have no idea if it's advisable to try this but it's what the GP said so who knows.

hyacinthbouquetsbucket · 16/04/2020 21:50

Noise?! nose!

SallyWD · 16/04/2020 21:51

I think I had this. I had all the symptoms and it caused dizziness too. I don't know what the answer is but for me it just took time. I was given antihistamines to help with the dizziness. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

itsmschanandlerbong · 16/04/2020 21:56

I had this too. I was prescribed anti histamines, a natal spray and ear drops and it cleared it up. Sometimes it comes back, although not as bad as the first time, and anti histamines do the trick. It's really bloody annoying!

MissDai5y · 16/04/2020 22:06

My Dr prescribed an Otovent Nose Balloon. Also used for glue ear and available for purchase online. Unfortunately I put in my prescription near work and haven't been able to get back since.

Should probably just order it online as not that expensive but haven't got around to it yet. Not bothering me as much as it was I guess.

clackymules · 16/04/2020 22:06

Last time I had this I found a combo of Beconase nasal spray and inhaling steam (at least 3 times a day for a week or so) did the trick.

Hercwasonaroll · 16/04/2020 22:08

Inhale steam
Breathing through your nose as hard as you can whilst pinching it shut
Inhale more steam

Repeat daily

ScorchioScorchio · 16/04/2020 22:16

My son uses an Otovent regularly to keep his eustachion tubes clear because he's prone to middle ear infections. It works well and isn't expensive - about £8 IIRC.

I had this too after a stinking cold, I feel for you all. It was like being under water; I'd lost all sense of taste and smell, and my hearing was shot; I felt totally disconneted from the world. I asked GP about trying to make my ears pop by blowing, but they strongly advised against it as it had originated with a head cold and could force air into my sinuses. Bizarrely, it lifted after a friend prayed for me when I was at my wits end.

LucilleBluth · 16/04/2020 22:51

Nose balloon x1000. The only thing that worked for me.

Icanflyhigh · 16/04/2020 22:58

Had similar for months on end and finished up with grommets.
Not had an ear infection or blocked ears since and that was almost 4 years ago.

Mehripoop · 12/04/2021 07:49

@Icanflyhigh were your sinuses infected? Did you have buzzing in your ears prior to the grommets and a sensation of liquid? It’s taking over my life!

Starrr123 · 15/11/2021 19:30

@Mehripoop how are you feeling now ? My ear hs been ringing for 2 weeks! Im going nuts! X

Mehripoop · 15/11/2021 19:34

@Starrr123 unfortunately it didn’t go. It is what it is. You learn to tune it out x

HereLiesBetelgeuse · 15/11/2021 19:45

I have this just now. On about week 5 now after horrendous ear infection. I've got a steroid nasal spray but I think I am going to phone next week for an ENT referral (private) and see if there anything they can do as can't be doing with this for months on end.

Starrr123 · 15/11/2021 19:51

@HereLiesBetelgeuse ooo sorry to hear your the same. Is it the ringing to? I had an ear infection too! I cant cope with this x

Starrr123 · 15/11/2021 19:51

@Mehripoop oo sorry :( how long has it been?
It could still go!!! Do u tune jt out durinf the night? X

BleuJay · 15/11/2021 19:55

Pinch nose, keep mouth closed and blow as if you are blowing the air out of your mouth but as your nose and mouth are closed off the air goes into your ears and will make them pop/clear.

It may not happen at first, but they will eventually unblock if you do this

HereLiesBetelgeuse · 15/11/2021 20:08

I've no ringing just completely deaf in that ear nothing coming through at all. Plus constant pressure and feels full of liquid. Feels like I might pass out when I sneeze or burp and dizzy if I bend down.

Clarkey86 · 15/11/2021 20:13

I had an ear infection a couple of years ago and since then I really suffer with my ears - low level infections repeatedly, constantly blocked up one side or the other etc. GPS are useless and just suggest going to a private ear wax place.

This video did actually provide some relief a couple of times:
