What can I eat?

TheZeppo · 16/04/2020 11:11

Before this started, I had a food sensitivity test done. My stomach has been giving me a bit of trouble so was hoping to figure out what was causing it.

According to the test, most things.

They suggest eliminating everything for 4 weeks and then gradually reintroducing so I can find out what the main culprit is. So, I am in dire need of menu ideas please!

I am veggie and apparently need to cut out all dairy, gluten, wheat, all nuts, tomatoes, chickpeas, kidney beans, black beans and soya. There were more, but that’s the general idea. I love veggies and fruit, but normally WITH things. Those things!

According to the test, I can eat any meat I want Hmm and most fruits and veggies.

I don’t intend to start this til after lockdown ends, as I’m predicting the need to top up fruit daily.

The good news is I can still drink wine Grin

Please give me ideas!

No, not GP (will go after all this has calmed down, didn’t want to bother them Blush)
My friends a nutritionist and recommended a company. I am taking it with a pinch of salt to be honest, it’s more that it made me smile and wonder what on earth I could eat.
So that’s what this thread is really, a bit of a hypothetical menu!

Love salad and cauliflower Grin

Check out Huel.com

Its a meal replacement (Not a diet food)

I have it for brekkie usually but a friend of mine who has suffered terrible IBS for years is having it 3 times a day and said they have been symptom free!!

MaccaPacca81 · 16/04/2020 11:25

*they also do a GF version

TheZeppo · 16/04/2020 11:30

Eggs in numerous forms.

Bringringbring12 · 16/04/2020 11:57

If you’re taking with a pinch of salt
Why are you planning on following post lockdown?

Waitingforadulthood · 16/04/2020 12:07

Rice noodle ramen
Veg biryani
Veg paella
Veg risotto
Jacket potato with guac and chiilis , or black olive tapenade, or beetroot and chives
New potato green bean and olive salad
New potato and egg salad
Frittata
Tortilla
Omelette
Lots of veg soups
Lots of veg stew
Whole roast cauli or celeriac with roast pototoes and veg for Sunday lunch
Egg and chips
Broccoli and mash potato fritters
Spicy roast squash wedges with salad and chilli in corn tortillas

The lack of tomatoes and chickpeas makes it a little harder but there are options.

TheZeppo · 16/04/2020 12:10

Those are ace, thank you!

Baba ghanoush instead of hummous if you rely on that for snacks with veg sticks

Waitingforadulthood · 16/04/2020 12:48

I don't know if cous cous and quinoa are okay- they'd open up some extra carb options. Was lentils on the list? If not a medjera is lovely.

And perhaps roasted red peppers puréed could replace tomato in veg chillis/ curries? Not the same and you'd have to add something sharp- tamarind maybe? To counter the sweet ness- but still an option.

Anon3742577 · 16/04/2020 12:49

For protein - can you tolerate Quorn? You can get very nice pea protein sausages (Birdseye), lots of eggs, I'm not sure if quinoa contains gluten? are lentils OK? You can make nice soups and veggie burgers etc

To generally fill you up - potatoes, sweet potatoes and other root veg, fried aubergine (mmmm), avocado..

TheZeppo · 16/04/2020 14:31

Lentils and quinoa are both ok. Love the idea of using red peppers puréed as a replacement for tomatoes!

I do currently eat Quorn- wasn’t sure if I still could? Thought it was soy based? Extremely happy if I can though!

Thank you everyone 👍

with a pinch of salt because I can still have salt Grin

And I’m in pain, so until I can get to a GP I don’t see the harm in experimenting to see what helps. I’m unlikely to cut it all out and definitely not in one go!

I’m enjoying learning new meal ideas!

Quorn isn't soya, it's "mycoprotein" so technically a kind of fungus grown in a lab (I tend not to think about that when I eat it Wink) - I guess if you're ok with mushrooms you should be ok with that..

PickAChew · 16/04/2020 16:06

Quorn often has soya added to it.

I'd take the findings of a nutritionist with a whole lake of salt, tbh. They are unregulated and often buy their qualifications on the Internet.

AlphaHotelFoxtrot · 16/04/2020 16:29

Gluten free oats? For breakfast, or in a crumble.

midlifecrash · 16/04/2020 16:32

Asparagus stir fried with mushrooms

Can you have lentils? Dhal?

Tahina dressing for salads or cooked veg, or sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds, if you can have seeds

Pickled artichokes

Rye crackers and breads

Polenta

Scrambled eggs with watercress - high in iron

KnobwithaK · 16/04/2020 17:39

Seeds is a good one (often they seem to be categorised separately from nuts). Nice toasted and sprinkled on dishes for extra protein.

There's no soya in (for example) Quorn mince, or chicken style pieces.

Elieza · 16/04/2020 17:52

Are you doing fodmap? It’s what people with tummy problems get asked to go on by the nhs dieticians.

There’s stuff on line about it. It’s about cutting out lots of stuff. It didn’t help me but it has helped loads of people.

wowfudge · 16/04/2020 21:51

Please get a GP appointment instead of relying on this "diagnosis".
