To parents that had a 3 year old and newborn...

Please tell me what buggies you recommend?
DD will be 3 when new baby comes, I don't think at 3 I'll need a double pram. I've been having a look at a travel system that includes a toddler seat or stand?
Can anyone recommend what they used please.

Thanks!

3 yo walked.

Buggy board, used it every day.
Double buggy, got second hand, used twice.

With newborn, would put sling under newborn- suitable stroller. 3 year old generally walked but when the need arose he would hop in the stroller and newborn would go in the sling. Also used a buggyboard occasionally.
With my younger 2, they were in the sling most of the time as it was just easier than hauling buggy in and out for school run etc.

We just added a buggy board onto the pram/buggy we already had. However dc1 was a really good walker so didn’t really like the buggy board so it didn’t get used much. Waste of time and money really, we could have probably managed without. On the very rare occasion when dc1 needed to use the buggy we put dc2 in a manduca baby sling.

My 3yo did mostly walk however longer journeys or ones that needed to be done faster the buggy board was invaluable.

I bought a buggy board, DS was in and out of the buggy every 2 minutes when he was 3 so it wasn’t worth buying a double buggy.

Neeentay · 16/04/2020 16:05

DS and DD are 3 years apart give or take a few weeks.

We have a buggy set up for DS and a pram for DD. Depending on where we are going/how long, DS goes in buggy and DD in sling (Ergobaby). Or DD in pram and DS walks.

I like the idea of a buggy board, but we live in a hilly area and don’t fancy pushing them both up a steep slope!!

Used a sling and a buggy when I had both of them. He was 3.5 though.

A Phil & Teds initially - bought it on a local selling site and sold it for the same price a few months later. After that I had a buggy board.

I never got a double. We had some combination of single buggy, sling, buggy board and scooter with a pull strap. Worked fine

My nearly 3 year old was over the weight limit for most doubles and would have been really expensive to get one that was suitable for him plus newborn. If your 3yo is small then the joie double is recommended by my friends and very reasonably priced.
We use the lascal maxi buggy board - it has a seat so he can sit or stand. It’s perfect. Was about £100 but clips on and off easily. He can sit or stand. Easy to push too Smile

Baby in the baby carrier and oldest occasionally on stroller, depending on how far we were going.

Now both are older I’d sometimes take the pram or stroller out and they can alternate with baby/toddler going in arms or carrier in between.

I don’t think I would have got any use from a double really and I’m not someone with an older child who walks loads, it’s just we adapted where we go and how far we can go from about 3 years old so that the older can walk and we just don’t walk far in one go.

I’m also just not confident using a pram for a small baby.

zigaziga · 16/04/2020 16:36

Will just add though I have the lascal buggy board and I HATE it. I should have spent the £20 more to get the one from the same brand as the pram. It’s just feels so juttery and it’s rubbish at going up curbs and things. On the other hand the people I know that have the proper buggy boards (bugaboo for bugaboo, cybex for cybex etc) seem to have a much smoother ride.

The quinny hubb with a hop on board is really good
