Anyone got any ideas how I can sort my hands out?

Hands are soooooo painful Sad they're red, cracked and swollen. An antihistamine has helped the itching but no cream has helped the dryness and flaking. I did have a steroid cream a while ago for pomphylox eczema but that's long gone. What can I do to fix them?

Cetraben cream is very good, but I actually think you should contact your GP if you can to possibly get more prescription cream. They look so sore Sad

pleasestoprainingplease · 15/04/2020 16:20

You can buy steroid cream at the pharmacy without a dr appointment but you really have my sympathy. I've suffered with that & I'm wanting to stick my own hand into some freezing water & rub the palm of my hand on something to relieve the itching. I really hope it goes away soon for you

IScreamForIceCreams · 15/04/2020 16:21

That looks like weeping eczema. Hydrocorsitone cream will fix that. My eczema has flared up with all this hand washing too.

Really thick hand cream at night and then socks on your hands.

Helps tremendously.

DixieFlatline · 15/04/2020 16:24

I’d ask your GP for a new prescription. When my eczema has been bad, the stuff you can buy at the chemist’s hasn’t stood a chance at helping.

WrongKindOfFace · 15/04/2020 16:27

Oh, that looks so sore.

Second trying hydrocortisone cream from the pharmacy. If that doesn’t work contact the GP. Avoid hand gel and stick to unscented soap for hand washing.

womanaf · 15/04/2020 16:27

Mine are the same. I’ve just got a prescription without going near a gp from ukmeds.co.uk/.

Had no idea such a thing was possible.

BestOption · 15/04/2020 16:32

I presume you've tried E45 cream? It was great on my hands, but they were just incredibly sore from over washing & chemicals.

I hope you can get it sorted soon 🌷

MuddyPuddlesAndPrettyBubbles · 15/04/2020 16:32

Looks like I'll have to queue at the pharmacy tomorrow then. Thanks for the sympathy, it is fucking sore. I was going to do a workout this afternoon but cannot countenance holding weights!

@MuddyPuddlesAndPrettyBubbles
I suffer from pompholyx excema on my hands and feet too, it wakes me up at night it can get so itchy.
Steroids just dampen it down but don't cure it, for me. I use diluted cider vinegar or diluted hydrogen peroxide from the chemist.
My excema is never better than after a trip to center parcs where it's doused in pool bleach for hours everyday. I then looked up using hydrogen peroxide/bleach on excema and it is a thing.
Another thing I tried which helped was eliminating broccoli and spinach from my diet. Apparently they trigger the histamine response in the body which causes the flare ups.
Hope it calms down soon for you, it's a bugger once it gets hold isn't it.

GaraMedouar · 15/04/2020 16:46

@MuddyPuddlesAndPrettyBubbles - I have exactly the same at the moment! I kept meaning to go to the GP but never got round to it. It is so sore! I have used some fungal cream that I still had, that didn’t work. Tried Savlon , didn’t work. Tried Betnovate, didn’t work. Each of these I tried 7 days. I’m wearing white cotton gloves now and using Diprobase moisturiser but it is still cracked and sore . It won’t heal. I think it’s dishydrotic eczema, so little blisters. I am vegan - but going to go and buy fish on my next supermarket trip as I’ve read oily fish is good for the omega oils for eczema. I’m going to give it a go for 6 weeks and see if any difference.

1066vegan · 15/04/2020 16:53

Normal e45 cream doesn't do anything for me but e45 eczema repair cream helps my skin. You can get it from Amazon.

MuddyPuddlesAndPrettyBubbles · 15/04/2020 16:57

@Littlefiendsusan we eat quite a bit of broccoli and spinach. I had loads of broccoli in a stir fry last night. Will leave it put tonight. The bleach bath sounds sore.

Sympathy to everyone else who is suffering with this. Its rubbish. I can't use my hands properly, it's too sore and my fingers are so swollen they won't close properly.

Glysolid is great, glycerine based and so rich. You can get it on amazon or ebay.

womanaf · 15/04/2020 19:05

I just did a bleach bath on my hands. Omg, the relief!!! THANK YOU!

GaraMedouar · 15/04/2020 19:44

@womanaf - did you just get a bowl of water, add a drop of bleach and soak ? Do you have cracked skin, or is it just inflamed and dry? I’ve got cracked skin on fingers and palm so just wondering if the bleach would kill me even more!

Willow4987 · 15/04/2020 19:50

To be honest, the steroids you can get over the counter might not touch it.

I’d be going to the gp and asking for a really strong prescription and maybe steroid pills. I’ve had them (prednisonlone) for my eczema before and I call them my miracle pill! Granted my eczema isn’t the same type as this but they may still work

womanaf · 15/04/2020 20:47

@garamedouar, just a splash of bleach and some warm water in the kitchen sink, hands in for around 10 minutes. Instant relief.

I googled it first, found it recommended on the National eczema org or something’s website. Not sure I’d have tried it otherwise.

Yes, hands cracked, blistered, bleeding, itchy... (exactly as OP’s pic)

womanaf · 15/04/2020 20:51

@MuddyPuddlesAndPrettyBubbles, my hands were swollen enough this morning I couldn’t close them. One bleach bath later, they’re like someone else’s hands. Honestly, it’s amazing.

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 15/04/2020 20:51

Diprobase has been amazing for mine. Got it off Amazon. It's good because it sinks in well and isn't greasy so I could apply it quite a lot through the day

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 15/04/2020 20:52

I should say mine were weepy and 'wet' and I saw an improvement pretty much the same day

MadamFlutterby · 15/04/2020 20:58

You need pure potion .. get it from holland & barrett

womanaf · 15/04/2020 21:35

Just looked for pure potion - it’s changed it’s name balmonds.co.uk/collections/eczema/products/skin-salvation?variant=31684537450558

ShowOfHands · 15/04/2020 21:38

Me too op. My fingers, palms and knuckles are so sore. It's the handwashing.

I've tried various creams but I'm allergic to most of them.

bettybattenburg · 15/04/2020 21:41

I really struggle with eczema on my skin and it'd got awful, I tried Dudu Osun Tropical Pure Natural African Black Soap (that's it's name on Amazon), my eczema cleared up and hasn't been back despite all the handwashing.
