I am following WW, never did slimming world, but I managed to loose 34 lbs since I started on 1st of January. I would give it a shot, I am not vegan, but fruits and vegs are free, starchy food have numeric value and there is a really good app for that.

There are three plans now on WW. Here you have list of all free food on three plans. On purple potatos are free:
www.weightwatchers.com/us/blog/weight-loss/myww/purple/zeropoint-foods-list

www.weightwatchers.com/us/blog/weight-loss/myww/green/zeropoint-foods-list

www.weightwatchers.com/uk/article/complete-zero-point-foods-list-weight-watchers

So depending which plan you get assigned (or chose as you can switch) you can have different point values.

I am green so for me potatos are 2 points for weighted amount.

PotholeParadise · 15/04/2020 16:56

Neither. Use Myfitnesspal, and pick a sensible weight loss rate.

Staypositivepeople · 15/04/2020 16:59

I don’t know how either work ..I’m just trying to compare on line ,as I don’t want to join a meeting ,just do it all at home

How does my fitness pal work

OP posts:
user1493413286 · 15/04/2020 17:00

I’m doing WW; from what I can work out is very similar to SW. there’s 3 different plans and the one I’m on I can eat brown pasta, brown rice, potatoes and pretty much any fruit or veg. It’s very easy to do using the app.
I’ve used my fitness pal and it didn’t work for me; WW works for me as I don’t feel like I’m on a diet as if I’m hungry there are things I can eat but it has helped me cut out the rubbish and processed food I eat but I can have the odd treat.

Takeyoutothehorsedentist · 15/04/2020 17:52

I'm vegan and lost two stone on My Fitness Pal. It's a free app - you download it and count calories. So you can eat what you like, but you just count the calories so nothing is out of bounds. It worked for me as I didn't want to pay anything, to follow special recipes or to join a group.

Hagisonthehill · 15/04/2020 18:00

I have lost 2 1/2 and maintaining now.Points for potatoes and pasta but non for pulses and beans .Much easier than calorie counting. The app makes you keep track .I'm menopausal and found it easy.

PotholeParadise · 15/04/2020 18:09

How does my fitness pal work

You eat whatever you like and just count the calories on the app. Much better for those of us who have pre-existing dietary restrictions, whether through choice or intolerances, who can't just slot into the plans for WW or SW and still eat healthily.

Hollywhiskey · 15/04/2020 18:36

I did slimming world as a vegetarian and lost the weight easily and had a varied diet.
I regained it all (got pregnant again lol) and now I'm doing team rh which is really good. I'm nearly vegan (have my own backyard hens and eat their eggs) and there is plenty of support for vegan meals. You can also have pringles and it costs about a quarter of the price of the others.

Staypositivepeople · 16/04/2020 09:28

Thankyou everyone ,much appreciated
I looked up my fitness pal ,As advised, and from there found ,loose it ,
So I’ve downloaded the app loose it ,and I’m all ready to go starting today.
It tells me I can be back to the weight I was on my wedding day by 10 feb next year.
So that’s a great incentive for me ,as wedding anniversary is in March .

The "problem" with My Fitness Pal, is that it's calorie counting, which isn't for everyone. Also you would have to weigh everything to know calories, eg. rice, pasta, veggies etc
It does start to learn your favourite foods though, and makes it easier to add things

Just a consideration. Calorie counting isn't for me (personally) because I become obsessed with the numbers!

BarbaraofSeville · 16/04/2020 10:04

Agree with 00100001. The main advantage that both SW and WW give you is the ability to cook anything you like from the free ingredients and eat as much as you need to not be hungry, without having to count anything.

With MFP you have to count and measure everything, so unless you eat a very packaged and repetitive diet, it's a total PITA if you're the sort of person always trying new recipes and eating something different that you've made every day.

So as a vegan you can have all the fruit, veg and pulses that you want. With SW, you can have a portion of nuts as a healthy extra, and a measured amount of pringles as a treat. Don't know about vegan proteins, but a lot of plain quorn products, ie not those with breadcrumbs, pastry etc so the vegan versions of those might be free/low syn. Similar for other proteins that are low fat. You'd probably be also able to count vegan milks as healthy extras.

The main disadvantage of SW I find is that it's really hard to eat out, unless you choose something very plain, which defeats the object of going to a restaurant IMHO. But that's not a problem right now, so wouldn't be an issue.

Deathraystare · 16/04/2020 10:49

I did WW years ago then when I found SW I noticed at the time they were more veggie friendly. WW might have changed now though. I did follow it and did lose weight but my friend and I left and the weight is now back!

runningpink · 16/04/2020 11:04

Neither!
Check out TeamRH. Highly recommend, Rich and Rach tell you exactly how it is and no food is off limits just hit your targets- steps/water/workout/fibre/protein and stay within your calorie allowance.

You also weigh yourself everyday, it’s amazing how much the scales fluctuate day to day so an average over the week/month makes a big difference

emsyj37 · 16/04/2020 11:11

Have you considered 5:2/intermittent fasting? I've done WW multiple times and SW once and never kept the weight off. It works while you're following it but it requires sustained effort and counting for ever, which I found really hard. After I had DC3 I had 3 stone to lose and felt really despondent about going back to WW yet again, so I tried 5:2 and found it so much easier. I've maintained the loss easily for 2.5 years so far by keeping to 6:1. I occasionally do a 5:2 week if I've been on holiday or overindulged. It's so much easier to maintain and I only have to think about food and what I'm going to eat one day a week.

motherofawhirlwind · 16/04/2020 13:43

I'm a vegan on SW and losing ok - my advice would be to stay away from Accidentally Vegan groups on Facebook as they find some very tempting treats Grin

I tried Team RH and lost not a bean in 3 weeks.

Staypositivepeople · 16/04/2020 19:59

I’ve never looked at 5:2 or 6:1
But I’ve noticed on Facebook something called zoom ,probs expensive .

First day of loose it went well.
App was easy to follow ,and it’s cost me nothing ,which is just as well ,as I bought a rowing machine 🙄
