Biggest/spookiest 'coincidence' you've ever had?

I thought I'd ask, it's interesting.

Mine off the top of my head - I thought of a boy I met as a young teenager. I couldn't remember his surname, only his first name. The day later, he appeared on my suggested friends for Facebook. No mutual friends etc. We met in Tunisia. I hadn't searched for him either. Last time I saw him was about 10 years ago.

I always had a gut feeling my dad would 'appear' into my life when I became an adult. I just always imagined it from as young as 8. He messaged me on my 18th birthday. Hadn't seen him since before I learned to walk.

Last one, my mum's good friend moved to Cornwall when I was little. I thought of her before going down there for sma weekend recently. It turns out that the person I hired wetsuits from was her husband. We took a photo together out for lunch. My mum said she almost choked as she thought she'd fallen off the face of the earth.

My brother went to India and travelled all over. In one place (can’t remember the name) he took a photo of a wall signed by all the visitors there. There were loads of names but on the small area he had photographed was someone who’d signed it with the nickname of our small local town. My brother thought this was cool enough, but the person who’d signed it was an old friend of mine who my brother hadn’t known.

The strangest one I can think of is when FIL (his name was Bernie) had a pretty serious stroke driving home one day. XH and I spent all day at the hospital and when we finally collapsed on the sofa late that night we put sky on and they used to have a list of recommended films on the home page. The top 3 were,

Bernie
Borrowed Time
After Earth

I've still got a photo of it saved because it was just so strange.

When I was 17 and had just passed my driving test I told my parents I was spending the day at a friend's house - my mum in particular hated the idea of me driving and was only letting me take the car for short local trips. We actually picked up several other friends, and decided to drive to a specific beach about 5 hours away that two of the friends liked (I genuinely can't remember why that seemed like a good idea, particularly as I was supposed to be home by 6). Anyway, we got to said beach, which I had previously never heard of, and were just settling down for a quick picnic before we had to turn round and drive back Hmm, when a group of younger teenagers in hiking gear appeared and started setting up tents in the campsite adjacent to the beach. As we wandered back to the car I realised with horror that one of them was my younger sister, and she spotted me at the same moment. Turned out that her DofE expedition, that I'd vaguely thought was in East Anglia somewhere, was actually in Devon. And they'd turned up at the exact same tiny beach we were at at the exact same half hour my friends and I were there. SO much bribery was involved in getting her not to tell our parents she'd seen me (and the car!) five hours away from where I was supposed to be...

Me and my partner met at a gig in London. He lived about 50 miles out and I loved about 100. No mutual friends just stumbled into each other and started talking. Arranged to see each other a while later and both of our best mates were actually going on a uk tour (both in small indie bands) together and visiting both towns.

Also went on holiday to Mexico once and met a guy from Scotland. I am from down south. We were talking and drinking and he mentioned a particular rumour that had circulated about a girl that he'd heard about. She went to my high school

I love this kind of thread!
Many years ago I stayed in a big old house in the countryside. I was only five years old at the time vacationing with my parents in France somewhere. It was the middle of December.
One night the door of my bedroom suddenly just closed without warning. To this day I still think there was a ghost in that house.

Mine is actually from Mumsnet! I am English and my DH is from elsewhere in Europe. He is from a small village (pop. 1000) and speaks a minority language (60,000 speakers).

I‘m currently breastfeeding and therefore googling loads of random crap. Stumbled upon a mumsnet thread started by a speaker of DH‘s language, looking to meet other speakers- in my home town of all places. Did a bit of digging and it turns out this person is from DH‘s village. And her daughter has the same middle name as my daughter!

I met my cousin (who lives abroad) on a flight between two countries neither of us live in, on a continent where neither of us lives. Plus it was a large plane and we could very easily have missed each other. We spotted each other down the aisle!

One Monday night in March last year I dreamed I was pregnant with a baby boy - very unlikely as I was 59! On the Friday of the same week my lovely daughter and son-in-law told us they were having a baby. Our beautiful grandson is now 5 months old!

panicstationsready · 15/04/2020 18:44

Very outing but I am friends with 2 women, we've known each other for over 20 years after coming together for a hobby - we are all in our 60s.
One knew all my friends from the mid 70s - and is still in touch with a woman who was my best friend for a few years before we lost contact. We never met.
The other woman and I were born less than 10 miles apart - about 200 miles from where we live now. When my parents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and I posted it on facebook we discovered her parents had married on the exact same day 5 miles from where my parents married.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/04/2020 18:47

SmokeyRobinson, some time last summer I had an incredibly vivid dream that I was pregnant - before telling myself I can’t be, I’m far too old! (I am) and waking up.
The next day dd told us she was expecting no. 3 - a ‘surprise’ baby, now a delightful 3 1/2 month old. She had known for a while but had been waiting for test results to make sure all was fine.

My mother was occasionally acutely telepathic, and I do sometimes think I’m a bit the same.

@patchysmum Sorry to hear that, yesterday must have been a hard day for you Flowers

ChimpyChops · 15/04/2020 19:25

Me and my best friend were talking about our Aunties and Uncles when we were about 11.
The conversation was -
'Mine live in Bolton'
'Oh, mine live in Bolton'
'Mine live on a street called 'Somewhere Street''
'Mine do too!'

Turns out my best friend who lived on the other said of the road from me had an aunt and uncle who lived right next door to my aunt and uncle, over 300 miles away from where we lived.
They absolutely hated each other 😂

pinkoneblueone · 15/04/2020 22:25

@patchysmum how heart breaking for you I am so sorry for your losses xxx

Theukisgreatt · 15/04/2020 22:46

I have a friend I used to work with. It had been a few months (he left) and I was thinking we should get in touch. Anyway, we then went on holiday to a small village abroad... you've guessed it, friend was there too. We live only 5 mins apart but it took going to another country to reconnect, we had dinner together that evening.

Boredbumhead · 15/04/2020 22:55

Bit of a sad one. My dear dog passed away just before Christmas. He passed away at home. I took him into the vets the next day for cremation. As I was driving away I put the radio on. The words from the song that came on were as if he was directly speaking to me; 'remember when we used to go walking in the rain, I wish I could speak to say goodbye."

0blio · 15/04/2020 22:59

@Notso now that's what I call a gift from the gods!

Pantsinthewash · 15/04/2020 23:12

I was in my lunch break from work walking down a busy street when a lady coming from the opposite direction tripped and came flying towards me. I was unable to stop her completely, but did break her fall slightly, and then stopped to help her and waited for the ambulance to come, etc. When I told my husband about it later that night, a funny expression crossed his face and he started asking me questions like "What was her name?" and "Whereabouts did this happen?". Turns out that his colleague two desks along from him and got a call earlier in the day saying his wife had fallen in town, and it was the same lady that I had helped.

terkwoys · 15/04/2020 23:17

Happened this afternoon. I was on a completely different forum ( kind of hobby related), and started a random thread.

An hour later, come on here, and someone else has literally started a thread on MN a few minutes earlier with wording almost identical to mine.

It wasn't even very interesting Grin

Grabbner · 15/04/2020 23:17

Last year my dd went away with friends for a week.

One evening I was in the house on my own when I could’ve sworn I heard her hiccuping. Was just pondering on how this could be when she rang me. I said “oh I was just thinking about you, I just thought I’d heard you hiccuping downstairs”. And she replied saying “Omg, I actually dohave hiccups!”
