And wow...some of these instructions!!

So can a professional tell me why:-

I have to take them upright and remain upright for 30 minutes

I have to take a full glass of water with them

Why I have to stay out of the sunlight...even on a cloudy day Confused

I didn’t see a doctor for these so wasn’t able to talk to him. They were given to me over a phone consultation

I think these are the tablets that made me vomit constantly for 8 hrs. I didn’t have any advice on how to take them, I think it was 4x a day, 2nd day constantly vomiting every 10mins, thought I’d need an ambulance it was awful.

I had pleurisy and the meds didn’t help.

undercoveraessedai · 14/04/2020 21:38

No particular help, but I had Doxycycline for a secondary chest infection during whooping cough, and ended up with thrush. The nurse said it's such a common side effect that they should prescribe canesten alongside it Blush

@DobbyTheHouseElk exactly what happened to me and I did end up in hospital. I was taking just one tablet a day. I could not stop being sick and shitting myself Blush

@legalseagull I feel for you. I had to keep drinking water so I had something to be sick with, it was hideous. DH rang the Dr in the morning when they opened and said how ill I was, he was apologetic. It’s on my notes not to have it again.

My friend is a dr and I called her late at night for advice and she said to stop taking it and the sickness would go when it had left my system. Maybe if I’d read the instructions it wouldn’t have been so bad, I didn’t have any advice before taking it.

Drogonssmile · 14/04/2020 22:20

They're pretty damn strong and can make you sick but apparently work very well.

Fluandseptember · 14/04/2020 22:26

I took it for about 18 months. REALLY take the sitting up warning seriously, it is GRIM if you don't. I didn't suffer w sun at all. The other thing is DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GET PREGNANT! Apparently it can cause catastrophic bone issues (basically baby gets cartilage instead of bone...)

Tempnamelady · 14/04/2020 22:34

I was given them for a bacterial chest infection following what I think was CV, I was so poorly at that point , that was 7 days from when I first took Ill.

I hadn’t eaten for a day or so due to being so rough and when I took the first two, I was violently sick a few hours later. Luckily sun exposure wasn’t an issue as we are were self isolating!

travailtotravel · 14/04/2020 22:41

Ooh, doxy is a wonder drug. It can cause awful photo sensitivity hence the sun warnings. Don't take them at night either- first thing with food, big glass of water, you'll be right as rain in no time.

I've used them extensively as anti malarials.

CaptainCarp · 14/04/2020 22:47

I had these as an antimalarial (probably a lower dose).
Definitely don't lie down after taking them. I forgot once & got terrible heartburn & almost sick. Also I needed a full glass of water not to down it but otherwise I felt something was "stuck". Sun thing is because it increases sensitivity just make sure you put on suncream.

I hate to tell you, you might get some vivid/lucid dreams.... I started to & spoke to another guy who'd had them who had really lucid dreams. I stopped taking them soon after that!

VetOnCall · 15/04/2020 00:21

I've had them as an antimalarial. I was a bit careless taking them a couple of times and once got horrendous heartburn and the other time threw my guts up as I stupidly took it before breakfast instead of with. It also made me super-sensitive to the sun, especially on extremities. I was really careful but must have missed a bit with the sunscreen one day and managed to get my right hand burned. It was only a relatively small patch but oh my god it was so painful, it felt really intense, far worse than 'normal' sunburn. If it had been over a large area it would have been horrific. I travel a lot and switched to a different anti-malarial years ago, it's more expensive but I can't be doing with the side effects of doxy.

iMoan7 · 15/04/2020 00:33

Ooh I was prescribed these for sinusitis. I was so alarmed when I read all this same stuff. But I had no issues

Soubriquet · 15/04/2020 15:49

These are good stuff!!

I’ve had my second dose today and I feel a lot better already. I have a weeks worth so hopefully by the end of the week I’ll be better
