Have you permanently improved your posture?

If so, how?

I think my head is too heavy for my neck. My head is often pushed forward over my chest, and droops. Rightfully it should be at the top of my spine, back and up. I try to correct it but that’s my default position. It’s beginning to hurt.

What can I do to fix this??

A friend did using Alexander technique.

Your 'default position' is just learned behaviour and so you can change it. Identifying it is the first step so well done!

I went to see a physio recently about something else and they had great advice and exercises on posture - would highly recommend!

Racer back bras really help me.

I used to see a Chiropractor. Apparently I was quite bent over on my first visits (from walking in a way to avoid my huge boobs sticking out.) She really straightened me up. But I have to admit I still slouch and am trying to sort it out.

Still trying but Pilates is excellent for posture

ARoseInHarlem · 14/04/2020 18:59

I did think of the Alexander technique, but am hoping to make the most of these times and do some work at home. I’ll poke about one YouTube maybe.

Yes, it’s learned behaviour, years of being huddled over a desk. Very difficult to undo.

Pilates on youtube helped me a lot. TBH I find it dull but flies by when you have a podcast or audio book on. 10 minute solutions - Pilates was the ones recommended by the physio.

HotPenguin · 14/04/2020 19:06

Yes, I have. Through Pilates and physio exercises. In my case the poor posture was caused by lack of core strength. You might find that the root of your problem isn't your head or neck but the core muscles further down.

Crikey0000 · 14/04/2020 19:07

Yoga yoga yoga. Get a decent teacher, I find Iyengar is the best yoga style for correcting such things . It's habit, being aware of it is the first step. It's more than likely related to your shoulder & chest position, you definitely need yoga in your life. Good luck.

I was coming on to say what Crikey said. So, that.

Could also be your jaws. It’s common in people whose jaws are out of alignment and need surgery (ie me!). I have a massive overbite and recessed lower jaw and was supposed to be having corrective surgery last month. It causes forward head posture,
