How to get a document witnessed?

Not sure what to do about this. We are hopefully near the end of the process in a very drawn-out purchase of our first house (we put an offer in over a year ago...) Due to a problem with the leasehold parking space, it has taken a long time to sort out. We're now renting this house from the vendor until the purchase goes through. In the meantime, we've had a baby DD.

We received a deed of covenant through the post to sign a couple of weeks ago, and haven't been sure what to do about it as it requires witnessing. I don't want to break the lockdown and would rather wait until it's lifted to ask anyone to sign it. I don't want to put anyone at risk (I believe I've already had coronavirus some weeks ago but obviously cannot be certain).

DH wants us to ask the neighbours, which I don't feel comfortable with. We know them to say hi to but that's it, and they have children too. Obviously, we don't know who else they've been in contact with.

What should we do? The vendors/landlords are putting pressure on us to sign this document. I believe it can wait but am not sure how to approach this. Advice welcome 😊

I would sign it, have them watch from a distance or through the window and then come out and sign it with their own pen..weight it down with something like a stone so no-one has to touch it.

They can use gloves if really worried.

I would ask your neighbour. Knock on their door, stand back and explain what's needed. You can sign the document in front of them, then put it down and step away, they then do their bit and leave it for you to pick up.
If I were your neighbour, I would do it for you.

So you could do a distancing ask no? Like invite someone ( in a couple) you no to stand 2m away from the door and film yourself signing the document, one person at a time. Then you put the document down and walk away and then they film themselves sign it or something like that. Always one partner signing, one filming.

I saw this done on the tv the other day. They left it at the end of the drive and signed at a distance. Ask the neighbours.
