Is there a way to get cheap weekly flowers delivered?

We have been shielding for last 5 weeks and as we are on the gov vulnerable list have finally managed to get delivery slots with Sainsburys which is a HUGE relief.

It’s a minor sadness in the grand scheme of things, but I really miss a cheap bouquet of flowers each week to brighten the house up..... but sainsbos (the only ones I can regularly get slots with) don’t include flowers on their online shop.

I tried Freddie’s flowers with a code but their normal price is £25 which seems crazy!

Is there any way of getting a £6-£12 bunch of flowers delivered each week? I know this is first world problems, but it’s making me sad!

Could you see if someone local would deliver a bunch for you? I would happily do that for someone nearby who was shielding

Elouera · 13/04/2020 21:30

No idea about a weekly delivery, but could you buy a pot plant- rose, orchid etc instead? The flowers last weeks, if not months, and even if you had to buy one monthly, it works out cheaper than a new bunch weekly.

Bloom and Wild flowers subscription starts at £20 but they last well over a week. I started mine a few years ago and am still paying the price I started off with, even though it has gone up since then. I have a link for £10 off if you want it, they are still delivering.

@NeverTwerkNaked I’d feel so guilty asking someone to get me flowers - it feels like such a first world problem for me to be upset over! You are lovely to say you wouldn’t mind though!

@Elouera I might try that, I have so far single handedly killed every plant I’ve ever owned, but this could be the start of a new me?! Could I get them off amazon? I need someone that would deliver it.

@Oxana how long do your bloom and wild flowers last? If you wouldn’t mind sending me your code that would be amazing. Thank you!

I'd say 10-14 days usually, they arrive in bud so look better a couple of days later. My mum has some still going from Mother's Day! Will PM you.

Backtobacktoback · 13/04/2020 21:58

anyone else have a code?

Lots of local garden centres are still delivering so might be a good place to get a pot plant? Peace lilies, Streptocarpus and African violet are pretty bomb proof. Or take a look at sarah raven website - last time I looked they were still delivering plants but had suspended seed orders,

Do you have a garden or any outside space? Again garden centres are delivering bedding plants and plug plants if you don’t fancy growing from seed.

And if any of your fri3nds are asking if they can help, do ask. I’d be more than happy to leave a bunch of homegrown flowers on a (local, walkable) friend’s doorstep.

Freddie's flowers are absolutely gorgeous and last nearly two weeks if you change the water every 3 days and cut half an inch each time.

Everytimeref · 13/04/2020 22:10

My local independent florist are still doing flowers and will now deliver. Maybe see if a small independent business local to you.

BigFloppyBunny · 13/04/2020 22:29

I recommend "Bunches" the cheapest flowers they do is £16 for 12 carnations and they are beautiful, last for ages.
There is always discount codes and you get points earned every time you buy which adds up to a few ££ of a bunch.

Whatevernext1 · 13/04/2020 22:29

I can fully recommend bloom and wild, they last for ages and come beautifully presented. I've had the letterbox version and the hand tied version, both wonderful. I only ever use this company now to send flowers and they are always very much appreciated.

TigerDroveAgain · 13/04/2020 22:31

I have bloomon which cost around £25 per fortnight. Tons better than supermarket flowers and I usually get another week or so out of most of them

Ask your local garden centre. Or see if you can buy flowers from a local florist.

FizzyPink · 13/04/2020 22:36

I also recommend Bloom and Wild, I’m very sceptical about flower companies as they never turn up looking great in my experience but I was sent the Bloom & Wild letterbox ones for my birthday at the end of March and they’re still looking perfect!

QuillBill · 13/04/2020 22:38

I had exactly the same conversation with my mum this morning. We were doing her Sainsbury’s order and she wanted a bunch of flowers and there were none. Similarly she can’t ask anyone to get her a bunch of Flowers at the moment,

I think I’ll,send her those carnations BigFloppyBunny. Thank you!

Bunches do a monthly subscription, you can tailor the amount for what you want to spend...

They're more pricey than standard flowers but what about the roses that last for a few years? They're about £100-150 for a large set but they don't need replacing for more than a year so actually work out more cost effective. There are various brands that do them but I've been looking at fleurs de Paris for a few days & trying to decide which ones to get (it's a tough decision to commit to one colour for so long!)

Dieu · 13/04/2020 23:55

My mum's Bloom & Wild lilies (from Mother's Day!) are still going strong. She also split them between a couple of vases, as she couldn't fit them all in one. Star
