Living in Paris

Hi

Does anyone have any tips on moving to Paris?

My DS is a toddler and would say we have an average income currently. Just wondering what I would need to know for moving to Paris.

Also if anyone has any tips for finding employment and for childcare etc.

Tia

I moved to Paris with a job. Watching acquaintances, unless you speak seriously fluent French and have very desirable skills, forget it. Even French graduates struggle to find jobs in Paris. You might do better in one of the other cities.

It sounds really miserable to say that. But for a dose of reality, you need to earn 4 times the rent, which will be at least 1200 for a one bed 20m2 flat in a bad neighbourhood. You will then have to pay probably 3 months up front in deposits and possibly need a guarantor who also earns 3x the rent. My partner and I are earning 100k, both in professional roles and still struggled to get anywhere to rent because French landlords are really strict because of all the tenant protection. This particularly impacts foreigners, and also means it isn't even possible to move out +30km from the city where it's cheaper because those landlords are even more anti-foreigner.

I also moved to Paris with my previous employer so had a job waiting for me. Ex also had a job offer before moving (he's French though). I echo everything Lekkerkroketje said.

The only reason we could rent a decent flat was because my French in-laws were able to be guarantors, even though we earned more than 130k between us.
