How do you address an HRH on email??

Sarahlou63 · 12/04/2020 22:10

I've connected on LinkedIn with an HRH (not UK) through a mutual love of horses and want to send him my standard 'this is my business' email but how do I start it?

Dear HRH? Hello Bert*? Hi there?!!

*Not his real name!

MacRedsocks · 12/04/2020 22:12

What's his official title?

FlaskMaster · 12/04/2020 22:19

Your Royal Highness? Surely Google is better for this sort of thing. Or did you just want to tell us?!

dementedma · 12/04/2020 22:22

Sir

Sarahlou63 · 12/04/2020 22:23

@FlaskMaster - Google tells me how to address a letter or in person but not via email.

TheSpottedZebra · 12/04/2020 22:24

Ha, you just wanted to say, didn't you Grin

My guess is it's her from Monaco's son.

Hope it's not a Saudi - I just read that there are... 15,000 Saudi princes! I'm practically a Saudi prince at that rate.

Ellmau · 12/04/2020 22:25

I would address it in the same way you would a letter.

AnotherEmma · 12/04/2020 22:25

I'd put Dear Sir, the one time it actually applies Grin
I only say this because I've been watching the Crown and the Duke of Edinburgh tells someone to call him Sir.
Definitely not Hello or Hi, needs to be Dear followed by something formal (not your highness though!)

wowfudge · 12/04/2020 22:25

Address the email as you would a letter. It's just an electronic version. If you feel that's somehow wrong as it's too formal, it's always better to do that than appear too familiar.

Burplecutter · 12/04/2020 22:26

Alreet pet,

How ya diddlin'?

Sarahlou63 · 12/04/2020 22:27

Probably one of the 15,000 then! Still want to get it right rather than piss him off from the first line Grin

OP posts:
TheThingWithFeathers · 12/04/2020 22:28

Surely he won't read emails himself, so it won't matter if you get it wrong!

SeaLettuce · 12/04/2020 22:30

If it’s Sheikh Mo, tell him stop imprisoning his daughters and drugging his racehorses.

TudorRoses · 12/04/2020 22:31

A bit of bowing and scraping never did any harm in the equestrian world Grin

Maybe go with Your Royal Highness the first time, and then see how he responds.

Bezalelle · 12/04/2020 22:31

Just put "Dear Name". They're no better than you.

rogerthatoverout · 12/04/2020 22:33

It won't be them who reads it, it'll be some sort of private office/PA who'll then paraphrase your messages anyway (if they deem it to be important), so in wouldn't worry too much and if it's a Middle Eastern HRH, their titles are all available on their bios online.

Sarahlou63 · 12/04/2020 22:37

It's LinkedIn messenger rather than email (if that makes a difference?) so think Dear Sir is probably safest.

OP posts:
mumwon · 12/04/2020 22:41

To HRH Prince Whatever (underlined don't knowhow to do this on here)
Dear Sir
re subject (also underlined)
rest of letter
yours sincerely
SarahLoo

Sarahlou63 · 12/04/2020 22:43

@mumwon - thank you!

OP posts:
BuffaloCauliflower · 12/04/2020 22:44

I’ve spoken to a lot of titled people in the course of my work, and in this case I would start simply
“Your Royal Highness”
And then just go into the body of the text.

BuffaloCauliflower · 12/04/2020 22:45

Dear Sir would also do, but some people really enjoy their titles and it’s generally better to over do it than under.

Except for senior Clergy who mostly just sign things back as ‘thanks, Fred’ or whatever it is

DramaAlpaca · 12/04/2020 22:47

I'd do as Buffalo says. Better over than under, as she says.

user1471565182 · 12/04/2020 22:50

Citizen.

doodlyfiddly · 12/04/2020 22:56

You don't say 'Dear ...' at all. Instead you put 'Your Royal Highness'. Thereafter referred to as Sir if addressing directly.

SeaLettuce · 12/04/2020 22:59

@user1471565182 Grin. Hear, hear.

LizzieBananas · 12/04/2020 23:45
