Spooky parcel, in my maiden name of 15 years gone. Can someone unpick the mystery?

And not my maiden name that I had before I got married either. The actual name I have on my birth certificate that I haven't seen written in over 15 years, and haven't seen anywhere beyond my birth cert.

I've seen that someone else in Mumsnet today has had something odd sent to them too and they're unaware yet who's sent it. I don't have Alexa though

The package contains a tube of conception plus (it's a lube to help TTC). No amazon history saying I've ordered it. And I don't really use amazon anyway.

For reasons I won't go into, we are sticking with just one DC sad

Is this some sort of cruel trick from someone we know, do you think?

Could someone have used ancestry websites to access your birth certificate and send this as a nasty joke? Anyone you've fallen out with who has found out your new address?

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 12/04/2020 22:22

You can search the item number in your orders or just contact amazon and they can search it for you.

Theukisgreatt · 12/04/2020 22:22

That's so strange. Frankly I would be scared.

That's a lot of effort though? Although I have no better explanation.

TheBrokenFuse · 12/04/2020 22:27

This is a strange one op let us know if you ever get too the bottom of it.

Isitweekendyet · 12/04/2020 22:32

How weird!

Not used your maiden name since childhood? Were you adopted OP? Or did you change your surname? Possibly a relative finding out where you live and attempting contact?

TheMarzipanDildo · 12/04/2020 22:37

Could it be your parents trying to hint? They would know your original name and obviously up to date address

I think this would be the creepiest solution of all tbh!

Llareggub · 12/04/2020 22:48

I changed my surname about ten years ago, yet the other day I totally forgot and wrote my old name on an internet form. Could you have done something like that and also been sent the wrong order?

oatlyexhausted · 13/04/2020 00:41

Is it for the previous occupant of the house?

I ordered some books for DDs birthday from a website I've not used for a while, and forgot to update the address, so they were sent to my old house.

Fruitbatdancer · 13/04/2020 01:07

I have received two completly random parcels from amazon, addressed to me, not bought by me.
One was a CD, one a dolls head 😱 terrified me, turns out it was for practicing hairdressing. Anyhow both times they’ve blamed an IT cock up wrong name/ wrong parcel based on bar codes etc.
So it does happen. Would you ever have bought anything in that name online?

LonginesPrime · 13/04/2020 01:36

Could someone else have been taking about you and their Alexa ordered it?

ARoseInHarlem · 13/04/2020 03:15

Was your original maiden name a compounded maiden name? Or your second name? Eg parcel came to Layla Herberrt (birth certificate name), your maiden name was Layla Herberrt-Jones?

If so, could be someone correlating a names and age registry to addresses with a view to gaining Amazon reviews. Your uncommon spelling is the giveaway.

I think it’s just a (very sorry) coincidence that the item is something that could be relevant in your life.

Trapordo · 13/04/2020 06:02

Original maiden name was just a one word name. Not an uncommon surname but definitely unusual spelling.

I haven't typed it out even in years either. And I forget I had the name. If you'd ask me what surname was on my birth certificate, I'd of had to think for a second. It's like it disappeared off the face of the earth.

I think I know the answer to this!!! I listened to a podcast the other day that explains it! It's really interesting and I'll probably do a much worse job of explaining it so I'll link it instead. Its to do with amazon listings and sellers getting their product near the top when you do a search. That explains the random product. Now your name...That's another mystery. It must have been lifted from some database somewhere by the amazon seller.

whatacrazytime · 13/04/2020 06:21

Live chat with amazon see what they say

Manyminieggs · 13/04/2020 06:23

The link is to a podcast called 'reply all', the episode is 'the magic store'. Its really interesting!

Claphands · 13/04/2020 06:29

My neighbour gets odd things sent to him from amazon, all cheapish useless stuff and he doesnt have an amazon account.

AvalancheKit · 13/04/2020 06:31

@ShyTown
We received loads of dishwasher tablets also. Turned out it was a free trial - Currys or someone passed on our details (and in the small print we had by default allowed our details to be used for marketing purposes). Was several weeks supply IIRC.

Trapordo · 13/04/2020 08:45

The answer to this is a bit of a boring one, sorry!

The culprit is... My DMum Hmm

SylvanianFrenemies · 13/04/2020 08:51

Euch. Has she explained herself? Inappropriate "gift", using your old name... not good.

Desmondo2016 · 13/04/2020 08:52

That's the weirdest most concerning outcome. I was enjoying the thread til then??? Why use a name you haven't used since childhood, and why send you LUBE?? Oh dear. Not good.

Triglesoffy · 13/04/2020 08:53

What? Why would she do something like that?

I had a birth name which was changed, then got married (NC again). If my DM used my birth name I’d be thinking a) Alzheimer’s b) WTF?

Crystal87 · 13/04/2020 08:59

Yeah right.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 13/04/2020 09:07

My mother would have done that if she had known such products existed! Think you need a word...
I’m sorry you had to put up with that.

Trapordo · 13/04/2020 09:09

She's a bit wacky. I'm not offended really. It's just her 'way'.

Doubt it's memory related either. She's still quite young herself!

This is the type of thing she'd find funny and a great laugh
