Thrilling flour dilemma

It's riveting and clearly not in any way important

I have a couple of bags of SR flour, only 3/4 a bag of plain.

I am making yorkies and crumble. Both usually need plain. Neither in huge quantities as only feeding 4 of us.

Do I:

Use SR for the crumble
Use SR for the yorkies
Use plain for both as am only using a little

I am leaning towards SR for crumble

Self raising doesn't work for Yorkies. I was a a quarter short for yorkies last week, so made up the missing quarter with self raising flour...total disaster.

Oh no- I was going to suggest SR for yorkshires so that they'd be huge and fluffy in my dreams
That doesn't work then? Sad

Crumble is pretty forgiving, particularly when doused in custard...

Yes SR in crumble. I think you can taste the baking powder in yorkies if you use SR in those and I prefer them to taste eggy.

TheFlis12345 · 12/04/2020 12:07

I would use the SR for crumble.

tectonicplates · 12/04/2020 12:09

Yeah self raising flour is fine for crumble. It's the sort of thing where you can just add anything in. Sometimes I add oats, too.

PragmaticWench · 12/04/2020 12:09

If necessary you can use cornflour in yorkshires, we use it for DDs gluten free yorkshires.

Frenchfancy · 12/04/2020 12:09

Sr in crumble. Never put Sr in Yorkshire puddings.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 12/04/2020 12:12

Nigella says she always uses SR for crumble because the only plain flour she keeps in the house is expensive posh stuff. So yes SR in crumble should be fine.

fairyfingers · 12/04/2020 12:52

I have actually gone lain for both today as it's such a little crumble and the bag was fuller than expected.

I will definitely do SR for the next crumble though. It's a proper Sunday pud that doesn't need eggs so v popular atm

I've used entirely SR for Yorkies before and it was fine 🤷🏼‍♀️
