PE Teachers- What are you doing in lockdown?

First off, this isn’t a goady or teacher bashing thread.
It’s the Easter hols now, but during lockdown in term time how on earth can you teach pupils?
I know how hard most teachers are working, preparing lessons to be taught online, marking, going in for key workers children, etc. But how can you do PE in this way? How are you getting round lockdown? is it exercise by Skype?
I know GCSE and A Level PE need to do classroom learning like other subjects but I’ve been thinking how challenging it is to try and teach a practical subject like PE.
Or are you rota’d to go into school more?
I’d be really interested to know as someone who loves their sport and is going stir crazy in lockdown!

"How hard other teachers are working" must have missed that memo at my daughters school.

DS school has set challenges and asked for photo proof
They are being given marks for their work.
The GVSE students have a lot of paperwork lessons and learning.

Pre easter hols ds's teacher told them to do Joe Wicks and sent a few links, also he's tried to keep in touch and be available if anyone wants to talk.

Not sure what will happen after, but they completed their portfolios and they don't have an exam (Scotland) before lockdown so not a lot to do online. They will be supporting key worker kids in school too, maybe more then other colleagues so they can be free to prepare work.

Regardless, even if they have nothing to do, would it really matter in the grand scheme of things???

Many staff have responsibilities outside of their teaching role. For example, two of our PE team are heads of year, and so are contacting the 150-200 students in their year group to check on safeguarding and amount of work being set at home, and liaising with other teaching staff to check the quality of work the students in their year group are creating.
Another member of the team is responsible for the schools social media, and is doing an outstanding job of putting together content for students and parents on Facebook, Instagram and teacher. Another is responsible for all BTEC courses in the school (not just PE), etc.
A lot more goes on behind the scenes than teaching five hours a day, which I completely enjoyed understand those not working in schools wouldn’t understand.

Thanks countdown, that’s really interesting. I was going to apply to do my PGCE to be a PE teacher, but with everything as it is I might leave it for a bit. Can’t do placements if schools are closed.

Babolat, SCITTs and PGCE are still offering places for September, so worth contacting them if you are interested - might be less competitive to get on the PE course this year.
