Is it possible to catch a sickness bug whilst self isolating?

What a night me and the kids are having. First a mice eats the Easter eggs (see other thread) and now this.

DD aged 3 developed a cough a few days ago. Not bothering her in the daytime, only the odd cough here and there, a little more frequent at night. Tonight she has been up and down like a yo-yo. She was coughing which was keeping her up, now she’s just thrown up. We have been staying at home for the past 4 weeks bar about 3 walks where she hasn’t been within 4/5 meters of others.

Is it possible to catch a sickness bug without coming into contact with others? I would imagine the chances of this being covid 19 are reasonably small since we haven’t been around anyone but I’m obviously keeping her home all the time now just incase. I’ve never known her to get a cough accompanied by sickness but I’d imagine it’s hard to catch a sickness bug when you haven’t seen anyone.

Sorry for the rambling post. I’m extremely sleep deprived.

Some people have experienced vomiting with covid, so I wouldn't rule that out. She may not have seen someone else but may have touched shopping or post?

Could also be food poisoning. Or anything really. My son threw up with tonsillitis for example.

How many times has she been sick? If once, it could be due to the coughing, or just a random one off sick that kids can sometimes get. Has she eaten anything new?
If she keeps on vomiting then it could be a sickness bug, although seems unlikely if you’ve been at home for the past 4 weeks.
I have heard that you can vomit with COVID, although apparently it’s not common.
Still strange, as you say, you’ve been at home for the last 4 weeks.

Did she eat some of the same eggs as the mice ? Maybe she got hold of some before you realised,

Duckyneedsaclean · 12/04/2020 06:28

She could have picked up something from her hands, either after wiping her bum or touching some poo etc on a walk?

I've got a stomach bug of some sort. I've only left the house to walk the dogs on a remote lane. It think it can only have come from food. I'm still staying inside though just incase. No temperature, no cough. Friend says her niece has something similar. There are other bugs going round too.

My ds on Thursday night was so sick, D&V, for about an hour, he was absolutely grey. Then absolutely fine again on Friday. I think it must have been food poisoning because as you say he's not left the house in weeks! But mind of us have had it and we all ate the same. Very odd.

I didn't realise vomiting was a potential symptom of CV but he has had absolutely no other symptoms so I wouldn't have thought it was that.

DS was sick last weekend. Quite sick over a few mins and not sick again.

DD sick last night. Exact same as brother.

I would have thought it too long apart to have been a bug but who knows.

They have been in no contact with anyone else since finishing school although DH does still go to work.

My son had a cough, mostly at night, and sore throat for 3 days, he was isolated in his room, day 4 vomiting and diarrhoea. He hadn't been out either but I was not well for 2 weeks before. Maybe someone ad a bug but no symptoms?

EasterDisaster · 12/04/2020 10:40

She was only sick the once luckily, neither of us got much sleep last night though as her cough was causing her discomfort. She’s totally fine today. The cough is only really causing her trouble at night.

Well this Easter truly has turned out awful. After having the eggs eaten by a mouse, DD being up all night. Today i have been in agony with the worst stomach cramps and now have a terrible case of diarrhoea 😩 god knows how having not been out anywhere. We haven’t even eaten anything that I could possibly attribute it too. DD has been having different dinners to me and for our other meals, we’ve been eating things like bread, cheese from the same block we’ve been using for a while and cereal. Fruit and veg which is always washed. I am baffled!

Look after yourself.

CV can start with diarrhoea before the fever and cough etc.

Hopefully it's something less sinister though. Xxx

Zaphodsotherhead · 12/04/2020 17:49

My kids used to be sick before they came down with something. Someone said it could have been to do with glands swelling in their stomachs and making them throw up?

Splitsunrise · 12/04/2020 17:54

Presume you are all self isolating for 14 days (or more) now?

StealthPolarBear · 12/04/2020 18:09

Is it not that her cough is causing her to be sick? Hope she's better soon

EasterDisaster · 12/04/2020 18:10

Thanks all. Yes self isolating at the moment to be on the safe side. Have been since DD developed her cough.

Zaphod I agree. It was sometimes the 1st sign that something was wrong.

We thought Scarlet Fever was a sickness bug initially.

The cough at night is probably the reason.

Maybe worth a call to GP on Tues if no better.

Itstheprinciple · 12/04/2020 21:09

Have you touched anything when put on your walks that might have been touched by anyone else e.g. gate, handrail etc?
