Rose bush

Here's a funny request. If you have a rose bush that usually blooms in around May time, can you add a picture of it?

I pruned ours right back this year as it was unruly and also some of the bigger branches were really heavy and falling over.

Anyway I'm wondering if it'll bloom this year, I can't tell! So I'd be interested to se what everyone else's roses currently look like to see if they look the same!

Slightly worried I have killed it!

I've just looked up same thing about isaphane Rose and from the do forum shows some of roses you shouldn't cut back too much!!

I've massacred mine!!

I have no idea what sort mine are! There are two bushes... One flowers more than the other and they are different colours! Other than that I wouldn't know what sort they are.

My MIL says it will be fine and most roses can cope being chopped right back, but even she isn't sure if it would flower this year. I'd really like it too, it's blooms would be so very welcome!

I did this last year. It will bloom but might just be a bit delayed. Rose's should bloom though to september /october though so you should have plenty of time.

Have you considered looking at a website selling roses and looked for a variety that yours could be? There are a lot of types you can discount, like climbers, ramblers, patio, moss roses, etc. You could check out the shrub or bush roses, including the hybrid teas, the floribundas, etc. Peter Beales' Classic Roses are a good website for this, using the flower colour and season of flowering as a guide, you might be able to find out what you've got. They also have pages with advice on pruning roses which I've found helpful - here

Pruning at this time of year is unlikely to affect flower production, they might be a little later than usual but I can't imagine it not flowering at all.

For your rose, I'd start my feeding and watering regime quite soon to enable it to get into gear - a nitrogen rich feed (like lawn feed) to strengthen its green growth, then a potassium rich feed like tomato food to boost formation of flowers.
