Tidy dining table, is it possible?

Just wondering if other people have clear and tidy dining tables?
Ours is never clear, ever, despite eating all our meals at it. I'm thinking maybe our problem is that there's only 4 of us ( 2 adults, 2 small children) but its a really big table. In order to serve tea tonight (or dinner if I'm trying to be posh) I've had to move a colouring book, play doh cutters and three gnomes!
I'm sure its clean and tidy prior to bed!

No.

longhaulstress · 11/04/2020 17:23

Ours is properly cleared for our Sunday roast dinner and then it just gets progressively worse throughout the week till the cycle starts again the next Sunday!

Knocksomesense · 11/04/2020 17:23

Ours is covered in craft, playdough, colouring, cups of water, puzzles....we have two preschoolers. I clear it every couple of days. We just shove everything into the middle during meal times Grin

Windyatthebeach · 11/04/2020 17:24

Cleared and wiped and tidy always!!
< only stealth boast here! >

TheMandalorian · 11/04/2020 17:26

Yes. Cleared for most meal times.

SallyLovesCheese · 11/04/2020 17:26

Every now and then I tidy ours. Currently has 3 coats (all belonging to one child), a book, a spirit level, j-cloth and some stuff I found on the floor under the table yesterday and "tidied" to the table.

So no, not often clear!

Marmite27 · 11/04/2020 17:27

Yes, I hate a cluttered table. PIL are terrible for it, it’s never clear and piled high with crap 24/7. My parents don’t even use theirs, it’s just a receptacle for crap.

Both houses are far too cluttered for me, PiLs living room is the least cluttered room of all. My parents is very cluttered, but huge so it doesn’t feel oppressive.

Mines just full of kids toys 😩

MsJaneAusten · 11/04/2020 17:28

Oh thank goodness. I thought it was only me who had the constantly filling dining table. We eat every meal there but it just seems to gather ‘stuff’

forgetthehousework · 11/04/2020 17:30

You mean I've got a dining table under all that stuff?

DramaAlpaca · 11/04/2020 17:32

Not in my house, sadly. Mind you, it's usually clearer now than when eldest DS still lived at home. His default when he came home every evening was to dump whatever he might have in his hands on there. I'm in the middle of a tidy up at the moment, so it's currently covered in laundry baskets, an old lamp, several dog leads and a crate of beer Confused

biscuitsanddiddums · 11/04/2020 17:33

LEGO hogwarts. There are only eleventy billion pieces. I estimate it will be clear by Christmas

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 11/04/2020 17:33

Yep, get the kids to clear all their crap off before every meal time. Doesn't build up then (although is quite often left on the floor instead)

MinesaPinot · 11/04/2020 17:35

Not in our house. We don't have a separate study or office and both DH and I are WFH so our dining table has become our desks. We're working either side of the table - my side has got a big monitor as I can't work off my laptop screen - it's too small. All I need is a cardi on the back of my chair and a few pairs of shoes under the table and it'll be just like my desk at work!

AuditAngel · 11/04/2020 17:39

Well, at the moment I am WFH so during the week my lol and notebook etc have taken up residence. During term time the 2 DD’s are also using it for schoolwork. I have given them each a large cardboard box to keep their stuff in, it sometimes makes it.

We usually only eat at the table on a Sunday, it gets cleared then, but sometimes the end doesn’t get cleared as we don’t need all of it,

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 11/04/2020 17:39

It's usually tidy but there's only the three of us.

formerbabe · 11/04/2020 17:42

Yes mine is clear. Kids use it to do school work and we eat at it and kids do crafts, baking etc on it...i just clear it once the task has been completed.

BillywigSting · 11/04/2020 17:43

Ours gets periodically cleared when dp gets fed of it.

It's currently housing a folder of worksheets for ds, a copybook, a pencil case, a few glasses, a rubber, a notebook and a peice of string.

It was emptied yesterday.

MrsClatterbuck · 11/04/2020 17:46

Household of 2 here. Dining table is never clear but tbh we only use it occasionally and have a table in the kitchen which I must confess gets cleared and then goes back to being covered in stuffBlush. We actually eat in the living room a very bad habit I know. Though we have been trying to eat in the kitchen lately. We will see how that pans out.

Threelionsandalioness · 11/04/2020 17:48

Nope x

Bringringbring12 · 11/04/2020 17:49

Yes

Craft / school work etc put away nearly as soon as finished with.
Post opened and binned or filed immediately

Takes effort but I couldn’t stand a cluttered dining table!

paradisefalls · 11/04/2020 17:52

Nope mines currently got a pile of cleaning washing on it ready to take upstairs, a half eaten Easter egg, colouring books and a lion teddy on it! I'm sick of clearing it Hmm

oohnicevase · 11/04/2020 17:53

Yes mike is clear .. I guess it depends on your space .. I would hate it to be piled up with stuff !

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2020 17:53

God no. It's the bane of my life as we have a lounge/diner through room with a playroom at the end. Kids play on the dining table (obviously, despite having a beautiful kid friendly playroom Hmm) and the table is constantly littered with toys, Lego, plus laptops, chargers.... I tidy it at least once per day

Vintagegoth · 11/04/2020 17:59

We only have one table, no kitchen table, so it has to get cleared for mealtimes, which are now all 4 of us, 3 times a day. Confused

islandofdoom · 11/04/2020 17:59

Yes mine is usually clear. Maybe because ds is 11 and does all his art and school work at the desk in his room now. I also do any work type things in my bedroom.
