To be annoyed with my dentist?!

A while ago I had extreme dental work done on alot of teeth. I paid the maximum amount that you can for nhs treatment. The reason as to why I required such crucial work is because I went to a different dentist before this one, who took multiple trays and recognised I had a tooth that was literally a ticking time bomb, he even admitted it required immediate care before it flared up but everytime I saw him it would be at the end of the day and he neglected that tooth as it would 'take too long' and focused on the quicker ones. Basically he wanted to go home sooner rather than later and obviously I left that practice and went with my current one. So after paying all this money my dentist started work on my teeth, and injected some sort of medicine into this bad tooth to keep it settled . The pain I got was the worse pain I've ever felt from this tooth. She left it to calm down and focused on my other teeth during appointments. By the end of all my treatment she concluded I either needed a serve root canal, but because the tooth was so filled down from previous treatment she was leaning more towards extraction as it was more gum than tooth at this point. I asked her to sort a referral for me for extraction as I was scared the tooth would flare up again and she said it was something she would have to sort as they cant do it at my practice? Not to sure what the problem was. A couple months later the tooth started kicking up again and I booked an emergency appointment only for her to reinstate I needed an extraction and offered me antibiotics, I left with a prescription and then the receptionist tried to charge me for the 5 minute appointment. When I pointed out this was treatment I had already paid for and my dentist left unfinished knowing it would only be a matter time until it was a problem again the receptionist went and spoke to my dentist to only confirm I had to pay as she technically 'finished treatment.' Now a couple months later and the tooth has started leaking, I know it's most likely infected as I feel pressure and pain from it again. I'm furious I've just been left in this state, I cant afford to pay for it again and I'm scared and confused on what to do during the lockdown. This should of been sorted ages ago and now I may have to risk my health leaving the house pregnant to get this tooth sorted that already should of been! Am I being unreasonable or do I have every right not to pay/be angry. I'm really dreading having to book a dentist appointment and just hoping the pain goes away although I know it's not likely

Forgot to mention shes actually left two teeth unfinished as another one she done 3 attempts to get roots out during a root canal and couldnt manage it. It was bleeding so much and despite having numbing injection in the roof of my mouth and literally into the root of the tooth (that was the most painful injection ever) I could still feel the pain when she tried to dig out my roots. So that's another tooth I'm very mindful could act up and paid hundreds for

Just to let you know it may not be as easy as booking a dental appointment- dentists have been told not to do face to face treatment at present but to do telephone advice and triage as appropriate I believe. There are urgent hubs, who will have full protective gear, being set up by the nhs if you fit into their emergency criteria.

Sounds like you’ve had rubbish dentists. You’re pregnant so should you be paying for treatment anymore?

Your pregnant? Its free

Sorry forgot to mention I'm not keeping my pregnancy. However I'm still considered vulnerable until otherwise. I will need urgent care this tooth isnt something that can be ignored as both dentists told me I've had antibiotics orally and injected in theres not much more they can do now than take the tooth out which is what needed to be done ages ago!

Actually you havent had bad dentists.

The first one you left before they could finish treatment. If theres a tooth that is a goner which it sounds like this one is, the right thing to do is treat the teeth that arent before they too get into that state

The second dentist you opted to have a referral for the extraction. That was your decision.

It wasnt treatment you had already paid for. You had paid for one course of treatment on the nhs and been referred for this extraction, you then required further treatment. One course of NHS treatment is actually amazing value for money, you have had a lot of treatment for what youve paid for

At the end of they are your teeth and your require 2 root canals because of what you have done, dental disease is almost entirely preventable. You need to take some responsibility for yourself.

Everyone has numbing injections in the roof of their mouth for an upper root canal. Sometimes teeth are so inflamed that its very hard to acheive anaesthesia, and the pulp bleeds excessively. This is called a hot pulp. The dentist has acted appropruately again, they tried techniques to getbin numb and couldnt. What do you expect them to do, do the root canal while you arent numb?
