Pelvic kidney pregnant

Hi Everyone I am new to Mumsnet.
I am nearly 16 weeks pregnant and I have a pelvic kidney. I first found out about it when I was 18 and was hospitalised with what they thought was appendicitis.
It is quite low, on the right side and twisted to the front. It works, but not as well as it should.
It hasn't caused me any problems since the infection at 18 and think it will be OK during my pregnancy.
I was wondering if any other ladies on here have a pelvic kidney and how their pregnancy and birth went?

Hi @Pacha25 wondering if you have any experience to share with your pelvic kidney during birth if all went ok? I am pregnant and also have a pelvic kidney and struggling to find much information on what this means for birthing options and whether this makes the pregnancy/labour a complicated one?

Hi congratulations.
I didn't feel my kidney at all throughout pregnancy or birth. I was under a consultant just in case, who did do an ultra sound to see my kidney which was a little squashed and also functioning tests through urine samples, all normal. My consultantant was great and supported me wanting a natural birth and only needing a c section if absolutely necessary. I was a little worried about needing one and the cut with my kidney being so low but I was reassured. They had never had a patient with a pelvic kidney before but weren't worried.
I had a natural birth in the midwifery led unit and was in the pool for a little bit.

I highly recommend hypnobirthing too 😁 best of luck, I hope your kidney is all OK.

Thank you so much for all the info, that's super helpful! I couldn't find any information about it online so resulted to reading medical journals which obviously only talk about the potential complications. I'm glad to hear from someone who had a positive experience and feel reassured that it's not something I need to be too worried about and it's easily monitored. Thanks for the tip about hypnobirthing too, I'm definitely keen to look into this. From one misplaced kidney to another, thank you 😊
