Raw chicken legs in the fridge, just noticed they have use by date of today! Would you still cook them today & eat them?

chipsandpeas · 10/04/2020 13:18

Pascha · 10/04/2020 13:19

Of course. Why wouldn't you?

Yes
Or put them in the freezer

Dollywilde · 10/04/2020 13:20

It says ‘use by 10 April’, if you cook them today you’ll be using them by 10 April, can’t see the problem!

Obviously if they smell or look funny don’t eat them but I’d assume that’d be the case even if they were in date Smile

Fivefourthree · 10/04/2020 13:20

As above

Burpalot · 10/04/2020 13:21

Come on, no one's this thick.

BarkandCheese · 10/04/2020 13:22

Absolutely, a shop would sell that in its reduced section.

Idontkowmyname · 10/04/2020 13:23

There are legally allowed to be on shelves and sold until close of business

Daisiest · 10/04/2020 13:24

Of course, they are still in date.

Elouera · 10/04/2020 13:25

Smell them! You will certainly know if they are off.

Bought some a few weeks ago, going out that day, and the smell was vile. The chicken was also covered in tiny specks/spors of bacteria you see in petrie dishes. Shock

Equally, I've had chicken many more times going out that day which have been perfectly fine. Just ensure its cooked through and not pink.

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/04/2020 13:25

Eat today or freeze them.

HennyPenny4 · 10/04/2020 13:27

If it was me I would def use them but maybe cook them for an extra 5 or 10 mins to make sure they are cooked though.

sparklefarts · 10/04/2020 13:27

Well of course, the use by date is today not yesterday Confused

ImfinallyaMummy · 10/04/2020 13:37

@Burpalot Well aren't you just lovely.

Thanks for most of the replies. I'm usually really picky & would eat much sooner than the last day with meat but I hate waste! Will cook for dinner.

Sandybval · 10/04/2020 13:39

Yes they will be fine :) you can usually smell with chicken when it's off as well.

EL8888 · 10/04/2020 13:40

Yep!

OldEvilOwl · 10/04/2020 13:48

Yes of course

Runkle · 10/04/2020 13:51

Why wouldn't you? If they look and smell OK then go ahead.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 10/04/2020 14:19

As long as you swallow the last bite before midnight. It turns poisonous on the twelfth chime Grin

PleasantVille · 10/04/2020 14:21

Seriously?

Stinking to high heaven and having turned green aside what possible reason would there be to not eat it?

mindutopia · 10/04/2020 14:22

It would be pretty obvious if you weren't supposed to eat it. You can't miss the smell. Otherwise, freeze it and use another day.

caz114 · 10/04/2020 14:51

I went to put my chicken in the slow cooker, mine was also dated today but it smelt awful, so having ham instead.
Trust me, you cannot miss the smell if it has turned. Now annoyed at the waste of food!

Bluebooby · 10/04/2020 14:55

I think use by/best before dates probably create a lot more food waste than is necessary. I suppose without them we would have people eating things that had turned green and smelt of decay and rot, but I'm sure they'd learn.
