Post birth hamper

Hi all,

My best friend is giving birth in August. It's very unlikely the baby shower we've planned will go ahead, so I wanted to make her a special hamper to give her after she's given birth!

So far the ideas I have for the hamper are:

Lanolin nipple cream (other brands are suggestible)

Comfy post hospital outfit

A letter for one week after she's given birth

Big disposable knickers

Big pads

Tiny jug to pour over her bits in case she has stitches (another mum recommended this for when she goes for a wee!)

Any other recommendations would be very very much appreciated!!

Thank you Grin

I know it doesn’t really help with your pre-birth hamper idea... but I’m due in May. I’ve already bought all the “essentials” type of stuff you’ve suggested in prep for hospital bag and first couple of weeks.
I’m a researcher and have done a lot of research into all the specific stuff I’ve bought...including nappies as I want to use reusable. I personally wouldn’t have wanted someone else guessing (but I appreciate not everyone works this way!)

What would I appreciate right now...? Nice bath stuff, body oil/cream, treat food, a yoga/birth ball and mat. Comfy bamboo maternity leggings from Seraphine..

is your friend doing hypnobirthing? Maybe a subscription for the Positive Birth Conpanys online hypnobirthing programme/Siobhan Millers book. Both not that expensive and well worth it!! The Modern Midwife, Marie Louise, also enjoying her book right now - very informative but easy to read.

Pregnancy massage oil for relaxation at home and during labour. Oh! And I just bought Spritz for Bits (think that’s what it’s called!) for after birth.

As for baby present - I’m asking family etc to wait until a while after baby here and we decide what we actually want / need rather than getting a load of stuff we never use.

Oh yes! And as PPs said, pregnancy pillow.. I got the dream genii pregnancy support one. It’s been fab.
Pair of nice light summer maternity pyjamas (shorts and tee) would also be great!

@Snailandthewhale we've not cancelled it. I'm trying to think of a plan B incase we have to cancel it and can't have it at all. Just want to be cautious in these times, as no one really knows how long we will be in lockdown for. My friend has underlying health conditions, so even if they lift the lockdown in April - she won't be allowed to (or feel comfortable) socialising for a long time.

Thank you all for all your suggestions. Things like bath oil and face masks are the kinds of things I had in mind! My other friend has created a hamper for the baby, so I really just wanted one that was just for her, so no baby stuff in that one. Really appreciate all the replies, and understand if I've been a little clueless from what pp's have said!! Thank you!

Not clueless at all! (And really really thoughtful!)

Your suggestions are things she will def need, but may just want to pick for herself based on personal preference etc.

A hamper for her (rather than baby) is a great idea - and if she hasn’t started already, I really would recommend the hypnobirthing book / online course. It’s very very practical and empowering (not hippy dippy at all), especially if she’s a first time mum like me and doesn’t know what to expect!
