Daydreaming about being by water/sea

Chocolategirl79 · 10/04/2020 08:28

One of the things I'm missing most (apart from a trip to the hairdresser) is being by the sea or an expanse if water. We would need to drive (30 mins) so obviously not doing that at the moment. So I'm daydreaming about moving locations to live somewhere closer to the water after this is over.

With my escapist head on, I've been on Rightmove looking at property in various locations close to water but I'm in the south so property is expensive and even in my daydreams I'm being realistic!!

So please give me some ideas - which locations could I be looking up? Oban is a particular favourite at the moment (albeit far too far for realistic daydreaming) as there's some beautiful and interesting properties within a sensible walk of water.

Where else could I look in the uk?

I’m dreaming of Bamborough and Cornwall.

puds11 · 10/04/2020 08:33

Bamburgh! Have just woken up 🤦‍♀️

TeapotCollection · 10/04/2020 08:38

Me too OP 😊

I’ve got the EarthCam app, if you pay a fiver to view all of the cameras (one-off payment) there are loads that are overlooking water or sea

And lots of other interesting ones too

Notopel · 10/04/2020 08:39

Gower is lovely. Lots of villages and not ridiculously expensive.

Movinghouseatlast · 10/04/2020 08:43

I moved by the sea last year. Every day I am thankful that I did it. I'm guessing Cornwall is too far?

My criteria for moving house was to be by the sea. We ended up 230 miles from where we were!

How about Eat or West Ferring or Worthing which are a bit cheaper? Deal and Sandwich are more expensive but lovely

Hoohaahoo · 10/04/2020 08:45

Me too. Can’t stop thinking about swimming in a big cold lake! God knows why.

thatgingergirl · 10/04/2020 08:48

I'm dreaming of North Norfolk - Wells-next-the-sea - or Pembrokeshire - Marloes, so I could get the boat over to Skomer and see the puffins.

QueenH · 10/04/2020 08:52

The North Yorkshire coast: Whitby, Filey, Staithes etc.

SarahInAccounts · 10/04/2020 09:05

I have seaside webcams saved in a folder and indulge myself several times a day.

puds11 · 10/04/2020 09:12

@SarahInAccounts what is that? Is it real time?

Chocolategirl79 · 10/04/2020 09:25

Some nice suggestions thank you I shall spend some time indulging and planning!!

The webcam ideas sound like a good idea too. Hadn't thought of those but will definitely have a look!

Hah, me too, OP! I can run by the Thames where I am now for my water fix, but I dream of living next to a lake...

Where can I move that’s got decent weather, near a lake, but that isn’t the arse end of nowhere?

For anyone interested - this is my current top choice (if I win the Lottery). Someone tell me Oban would be rubbish?!?! www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-73458322.html

While you are searching look up an ocean waves playlist on spotify. This has really helped me - I sat in the garden yesterday, in a reclining deck chair, headphones in, listening to the ocean for about two hours. It was bliss.

Frownette · 10/04/2020 11:28

Cheshire1973 oh I do that, if ever I'm feeling agitated I put on a recording I've got of ocean waves and birdsong.

Takes about 2 minutes to work, it's blissful.

I'm by the sea, not that I can have a splash around at the moment :)

Geraniumblue · 10/04/2020 11:31

Being near a river can be very relaxing too - and plenty of places have one.

Cheshire1973 · 10/04/2020 12:11

Frownette I'm actually sitting in the garden right now, listening to birdsong radio, its blocking out the DIY sounds, screeching and lawnmowers Grin

Basilandparsleyandmint · 10/04/2020 12:25

Wells next to the Sea in Norfolk or a really place in Louth called Hubbards Hills - really pretty stream in valley

2beautifulbabs · 10/04/2020 12:41

I'm dreaming of being able to spend time with my parents brother sil and them all being able to see DCs and us all having a nice BBQ in my parents garden I really hope and pray this nightmare is soon over so we can try and return to as normal as we can also I'm missing the beach and just nature walks at moment fed up of walking round the streets

Chottie · 10/04/2020 12:44

I just want to hug my DGSs

I'm also missing the sea, big sky expanses, big NT gardens........

Xiaoxiong · 10/04/2020 12:45

Just started reading this, for the same reason! And put on a nautical skirt too!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/04/2020 12:52

Same. I've been looking at lots of old holiday photographs and trying to find video on Youtube of some of my favourite watery places!

Pippapotomus · 10/04/2020 22:12

We were meant to be on our boat on the Norfolk Broads this week. I'm absolutely gutted at the weather is lovely. I had been looking forward to it for ages.

I've found myself playing Sea of Thieves on DSs xbox (it's surprisingly realistic).

Doingtheboxerbeat · 10/04/2020 23:47

I luckily had a beach holiday somewhere hot in February and I spent a few days alone walking on the beach, listening to my favourite songs. I felt so much peace as the water was swishing between my toes but at the same time felt like I had treasure this time. I had no idea things were going to get this bad.
