Oil prices for those with oil fired CH

I have never seen prices so low (25p per litre) for those with oil fired central heating, sadly our tank is almost full so we can't take advantage.

We are in similar position! DH thinks June-July will still be very low. Ours does hot water, too, so we are hoping to squeeze another 1000 litres in while it's still cheap.

bloodywhitecat · 09/04/2020 19:08

That's interesting, hopefully we'll be able to get a good amount in by then as ours is for our hot water too.

We noticed that and put an order in... No rush on delivery date and will last us through the winter at our normal usage rates.

We're expecting delivery shortly!

It was on MN that I discovered the joys of Boiler Juice!

BunnyandBee · 09/04/2020 19:59

I am a bit gutted as we have just topped up (ordered a couple of weeks ago) and paid 46p/l Sad
Anyhow were literally about to run out, so couldn't have left it (and I had no idea prices were dropping in that way).
You win some you lose some I guess.

bloodywhitecat · 09/04/2020 20:37

@MuseumOfYou We find The Oil Club are even better prices if there is one near you.

Bloody hell!!! I filled up in February as I was running low, so won't be able to take advantage.

cptartapp · 09/04/2020 20:46

I bought 500litres two weeks ago but wish I'd bought 1000. Think I'll top up further next week.

mejon · 09/04/2020 22:33

Bollocks! Filled up in early February and paid just over 50ppl. Still have 800L left so won't be in a position to get more until the autumn I'd imagine as we don't use much in the spring/summer.

SpringFan · 09/04/2020 22:47

HMMM. We need a new boiler and are thinking of ditching oil in favour of an air source pump. These prices are making me think........
Agree the oil club is better than Boiler Juice.

Gizlotsmum · 10/04/2020 07:48

@springfan we looked at going to air source and just couldn't justify it. We don't have the amount needed upfront and the running costs for us wouldn't really be a saving due to the age of our property.

MuseumOfYou · 10/04/2020 13:21

I've signed up to the Oil Club too, thanks!

gallbladderpain · 10/04/2020 14:04

Where in the country is it 25ppl !? Still 175 for 500 litres where I am !?

TonTonMacoute · 10/04/2020 14:08

When we first moved to the countryside (over twenty years ago!) it was 9p per litre. Oh happy days!

I am in a local oil club and will be ordering this month so fingers crossed!

SpringFan · 10/04/2020 14:37

Our Oil club price is 25.75p per litre on this weekend's message. First oil I bought was 9.9p. I have a spreadsheet of purchases since then..

Chasingsquirrels · 10/04/2020 15:30

My 1sy purchase was 18p - 2001. Also have a spreadsheet...
🙂

Blueuggboots · 10/04/2020 15:39

We initially got quoted 45p/litre but bought at 22p/litre which was delivered last week!! We're new to oil fired heating so it was a nice bonus.
Being cheeky, have any of you got an ultrasonic level device? We can't get ours to work!!

mencken · 10/04/2020 15:44

also fairly full here - thought we were doing well at 40p!!

HPLikecraft · 10/04/2020 16:48

It's great, isn't it?

I suggested to DH that we install a huge reserve tank so we can take advantage of low prices! Was only half joking.

SpringFan · 10/04/2020 19:14

DO NOT speak to me about oil tanks. We need a new boiler, and have been advised by 2 separate plumbers that ANY work that involves the pipework between the tank and the boiler means that we will have to move our oil tank as its position does not meet current building regs, And as it is 20 plus years old , a new one is recommended. So that adds a substantial amount to the boiler costs. ( New tank, removal of the old one, new ground work to site it, etc) Hence considering a Air Source!!!! Difficult to believe but works out nearly the same.

Gizlotsmum · 10/04/2020 19:44

@springfan. Yes I can imagine the costs would soon equal out in that scenario... And air source has a better longer term payback if you need to spend the initial outlay anyway... But ouch... That's not a cheap solution

Im in Norfolk and got a quote from Oil NRG today.....£111 for 500 litres....has anyone ordered from them before?

PragmaticWench · 10/04/2020 20:50

So incredibly frustrating, we're mid extension and were waiting for the walls to be rendered so we could site the new oil tank and fill it. Except now the building work is stopped, so we can't take advantage!! Angry

Can't even fill the old tank as the old boiler is dying and the new tank would be attached to a shiny new boiler.

SpringFan · 17/04/2020 18:32

21.78p plus vat on our area offering from The Oil Cub email today.
