How to go running without losing weight?

I know most people have the opposite issue but for the last few years, I’ve lost lots of weight for no real reason medically (I’ve had the tests) and generally been eating more protein and fibre and sugar but less carbs (like bread, pasta etc) which might explain it a bit. Question is I want to continue improving my running but worried I’m gonna lose even more weight. Any way to prevent that happening? I can’t increase my food intake any further as already often have a strong appetite.

You need to eat more calorie dense food, so you wouldn't be increasing the amount of food to make up for the increase of calories you will burn.
I assume you are a healthy weight currently?
Have you much muscle?
You might have to do weights to increase the amount of muscle you have if it has been depleted.

I don't find I lose weight from running alone. Hard to advise without knowing more - how much you're running etc

I manage to run without losing weight, it really annoys me Grin just overcompensate the calories you think you're burning

You’re going low carb and I suspect it’s not by accident 😂 no wonder you’ve lost weight.

You can run and not lose weight. You’ll get hungry.

I don’t think running alone helps you lose weight at all.
Weight training and plenty of food would bulk you up though.

Where a fitbit all the time which gives your daily calorie use.
Monitor your calorie intake.
Make sure you eat at least 300 kcal/day more than the fitbit says you needed.
Let us know how that goes.

If you want to put on weight...eat carbs!
Works every time

Typhoonmarie · 09/04/2020 19:36

You need carbs to run so enjoy them!

er eat carbs?

Thanks for the replies everyone so far. I was trying to go low sugar (which includes carbs) as I get acne and gut issues (potentially Candida) from it. I mainly avoid white refined carbs and annoyingly brown wholewheat carbs I have an allergy to.

I don't understand, you're giving up carbs because of the sugar but you're eating more sugar - or was that a mistake in your op? Have you tried just reducing your carb/sugar intake rather than cutting it out completely? We really do need carbohydrates.

QuakingQuiche · 10/04/2020 02:31

I did write I have sugar as that’s been part of my diet until recently. I’m in the process of quitting or at least reducing sugar to sort out gut Candida which thrive on carbs and sugar.

I’ve not eaten refined carbs or sugar (I’m keto) for over 3 years.

I lost a LOT of weight in the first year and looked a bit skeletal. But over time, it stabilised and I just look slim now. It’s not your running, it’s your diet and I’d trust that your body will stabilise over time.

Cutting out sugar and refined carbs is one of the best things you can do for your health IMO, so don’t worry about being a bit skeletal for a while, your body will adjust.
