Shall I buy a Shark DuoClean or keep my Henry vacuum cleaner?

I don't know whether to buy the Shark DuoClean anti-hair wrap powered lift away vacuum cleaner.

I currently have have a Henry, which I've had for about 10 years. It works fine, although not as well as when it was new, but I find it bulky to move around, especially cleaning the stairs and carrying it up. I like the look of the Shark model but I don't want to buy it if it will not be any better than the Henry that I've got. I bought a Vax Blade cordless thing for doing the stairs and upstairs but it is awful. No suction and it constantly has my DDs' long hair wrapped around the roller. I thought it would solve my problems of the stairs and upstairs etc. but it is so awful that I never even bother to charge it anymore. It was a complete waste of money, so I don't want to waste more money on the Shark.

Anyone got a Shark and what do you think of it?

Sorry for the boring thread! At least it's not anything to do with covid 19.

My mil has done the same she swapped Henry for the shark and she loves it.

Weve just replaced our very old Dyson with a shark (not the stick one, a traditional upright, but with the anti hair wrap). It's amazing. Exceedingly scary at the revoltingness that has come out of the carpets. My only issue with it is the tiny dust compartment. I'm currently having to empty mid way through cleaning our 4bed house.
I've hardly done any vacuuming in the 6 weeks weve had it, as the kids OFFER to hover! And the headlights are cool!!!!

You can get a special attachment for hair for the vax. I just bought one, I think it was about £7. Any brush roller isn't suitable for dealing with long hair. Other than that I really like my vax cordless, especially as it is so light.
I think the problem with long hair is that you really need a suitable attachment.

I hadn't heard of the anti- hairwrap feature. Is it good?

Sorry if this comes across badly OP, but have you cleaned the filters and checked for blockages? I am sure you have, but I am reminded of the time DH hoovered up a conker. He was going mad because the vac wasn't working, but the place where the conker was stuck was really difficult to see/ reach.

I've just bought the Shark Duo-Clean Liftaway, but it's a cordless one.
I was initially a little worried that it wouldn't do the job, as I wanted something I could quickly whizz round the kitchen and downstairs wood floors, but also do well on upstairs carpets.

It's amazing on both. It's very light, it has a small head and swivels well into corners; on carpets it almost pulls you along! The lift away function is great, you just take the small cylinder up the stairs with you. The separate motorised attachment is excellent for stairs and car interiors.
I can't believe a cordless can be so powerful and effective, so I'm sure a corded one would be fantastic. I even love it's little headlights, which at first thought were a bit gimmicky, but so useful, especially in an old house with dark corners.

It replaced my old Dyson and I would never go back to that heavy beast, even though it had a bigger dust capacity.

I'd keep Henry as a back up regardless of whichever vacuum you buy next.

I had to go the factory in Chard where they make Henry Hoovers and met some very nice people, so get another Henry!

abitoflight · 09/04/2020 15:05

I've got 2 sharks now. So much better than Dyson v10 that first one replaced. Never had a Henry but couldn't go back to messing about with a cord.

Yes, I've even bought all new filters and it still is not as good as it was when new. It's really bulky and heavy to move as well.

Get a Shark. Never thought I'd find hoovering so exciting but they are amazing! Was quite horrified the first time I used it at all the dust and pet hair it got out of the carpets. It has different settings for different floor types as well.

Henry will go to live in the garage! I feel quite guilty looking at his face and thinking that I'm dumping him for a newer, slimmer model!

It's ok. OP. Dyson is now consigned to the spidery shed/games room. He's accepted his fate.

TheHobbitMum · 09/04/2020 16:43

We recently bought the shark duo clean xl and really do love it! Much better than our Dyson animal vacuum. Dyson is now kept for cleaning the car out. Shark gets my vote OP

Caaarrrl · 09/04/2020 17:57

Thanks everyone. I've ordered the Shark powered lift away duoclean xl.

I really need to get back to work to stop me spending so much money!

Replaced my old vax with a shark duo. Wow what a difference, picked up so much more, we have two dogs and a cat.

chillichutneysarnie · 09/04/2020 18:07

Yeah keep Henry. I kept him for downstairs and use the shark on the stairs and upstairs where there's most of my hair 😂 both have their merits!
